VFR Cooking Class Schedule and Free Time

I'm trying to fine-tune an itinerary for our free time in Florence during the Best of Venice, Florence and Rome tour next month. We have two free afternoons and one evening. I know that on Day 5 of the tour, the group will do the cooking class and lunch. Can anyone who has been on this tour give me an idea what time that might conclude? Will we end up with most of the afternoon free or does it run into mid-afternoon?

I'm looking at this afternoon as the likely time to visit the Duomo Museum with reservations for dome and/or campanile climbs. (looking at the tour itinerary, I'm assuming the Duomo Museum is not included. Am I correct?) We'd then like to get to San Miniato in time for the Gregorian chant service at 17:30 and enjoy the views from Piazza Michelangelo.

When I started putting together plans for this tour, I quickly realized that I had underestimated Florence. I've got a sizable list of things that sound fascinating which we just won't have time for.

Hi there! This is Alexis from the Rick Steves' Tour Department. Thank you for your post! On Day 5 of your tour, your group cooking class and lunch should conclude around 14:30. This would be a good day to visit the Duomo Museum or climb up the dome or Campanile, as these are not included in your tour group's activities. However, you might choose climbing either the Duomo OR the Campanile, as you probably would not have time to do both if you are aiming to get to San Miniato by 17:30. Keep in mind that on Day 6, you'll have a free evening around 18:30, so you might try to spread your free time activities out a bit. Your guide will also be able to provide some insight and direction once you're on tour. I hope this helps! If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to give us a call at 425-608-4217. We look forward to seeing you in Italy!

Alexis: Thanks for much for the guidance. Orin in the tour office also sent an email response. Much appreciated!

Just to clarify, on Day 6, the evening visit to the Accademia concludes by about 6:30?

We did this trip last year in May, it is really great!!!! You will have plenty of free time to see other sites. The cooking class is one of the highlights, it brings the group together in a wonderful way. The day you spend in Tuscany on the olive/wine farm is probably my favorite experience in all my trips to Italy.
