Venice Fee Exemption

Are others having trouble requesting an exemption for Venice Day Tripper Fee? I get all the info in, click next, and they send me back to the top of same page. No clues that something's missing. And they hardly give you enough time! Will try again in a couple days. Who do we contact if we can't get the exemption? Thanks, Robin

Welcome to the forum, Robin -
Out of curiosity, will you be visiting Venice on any of the days this year when the access fee will be charged?

I'm not certain but I'm wondering if your problem is because you're trying to request an exemption for a day (or days) when it doesn't apply?

Thank you, Kathy, for your response. Only 3 of the 7 days I'm there will have fees. And I did mention all 7. Will try again with the 3!

If you are staying in Venice, I don't believe you need to pay a day trippers fee.

The Venice daytrippers tax is levied only on visitors not staying overnight in Venice during Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from April 18-July 27.
Interesting that August is not included in anything I’ve seen.

Right. People staying on the island don't need to pay the fee but they do need to file an exemption. That appears to be Robin's problem.

"SUBJECTS WHO MUST REQUEST EXEMPTION COMPULSORILY

  1. Subjects staying in accommodation facilities referred to in article 2 of the Regulation of the tourist tax of the Municipality of Venice located within the municipal territory and suitable for providing, for any reason, paid hospitality of a temporary nature, insofar as they are subject to the tourist tax referred to in article 4, paragraph 1 of Legislative Decree 14 March 2011, n. 23; this exemption is recognized from the day of arrival to the day of departure at the accommodation facility;"

I've found it sort of annoying that the accommodations can't (yet) provide some form of proof of booking for their customers so that they don't have to mess with the exemption but it is what it is.

SUCCESS GETTING EXEMPTION! The problem was that I needed to click 'Manual Entry' before typing hotel info. The 'List' of hotels that I could choose from, did not come forth for me

Thanks all for responding!

Reading the document Kathy mentioned, I found this:

"SUBJECTS WHO DO NOT NEED TO REQUEST EXEMPTION:

•....those staying registered in the register of the temporary population must show the communication of acceptance of the application for registration in the register of the temporarily resident population..."

Does that not apply to hotel guest who would seem to be a member of the temporary population?

Don't mind doing whatever is needed, just confused by the wording of this official document. But then that's the case with most government documents I read.

Thanks Kathy. Yes, 'just' need to finish packing. Though I started months ago, there's still lots to get finalized. Crazy! And plenty of anxiety involved, since I haven't been overseas for 30 years! That should resolve once on the 'road' :)
