I have been watching the prices for a tour through Walks of Italy for a Vatican tour in April. When I went online today to book it, the price went up $50 per person! Viator has a similiar tour for about the same cost as the original Walks of Italy tour. Would love to hear your exoeriences with either before I book. I have read Google reviews but also interested in hearing from members of this forum.

Viator isn't a tour company and doesn't conduct their own: it's an aggregator of many other companys' tours.
To check the quality of the tour you are seeing on Viator, you need to look at which company is actually conducing the tour and check their reviews; not Viator's. For instance, this tour:
Waaaay down near the bottom of the page it states: "Supplied by City Wonders Ltd." That's the company you need to check for reviews.

It doesn't mean that a tour you book through the Viator site will be less-than-wonderful. The point is to check out the company that will be guiding your tour before booking, just in case there are no reviews, too many not-very-good reviews, etc. Make sense? :O)

If you don't mind my asking - in all sincerity - why do you feel you need to take a tour through a museum? The Vatican Museum, like most museums, has exhibits of art, sculpture and history along with written descriptions (and yes, they are in English as well as Italian) that you can read for yourself. You can just walk through the museum at your own pace and study the exhibits that interest you. If you want more info, you can buy a guide book. The Sistine Chapel you basically just walk IN and look UP. I can't even imagine what a tour guide is going to tell you that you couldn't just read about for yourself.
Museums, by their very nature, are made to be accessible to anyone and don't require tour guides.
Again, in all sincerity, I don't understand the appeal of following a tour group through a museum instead of just enjoying it on your own.

Many times a guide is the easiest way to get "hard to get" tickets.
I used a tour through Viator for the Vatican and Sistine. I like Viator and have always found them helpful.
