Is it normal not to be able to book your seat for some of the itineraries? Looking at Bath to Llandudno and seems we can’t pick our seat? This is a 5 hr trip. Thx Larry

some trains have reserved seats available, some don't.

The train companies I worked for had reservations available on some routes but not on the vast majority of routes. I remember the old paper reservation slips were a pain to work with.

If you are using local trains Bath to Newport and TfW local trains for the connecting train I would be surprised if reservations were available.

At the moment and for the foreseeable future yes it is normal.
The substantive part of your journey, from Newport to Llandudno Junction, is on Transport for Wales.
They are having big issues with rolling stock availability, so can't predict what train type will be on any given train from day to day, thus reservations are suspended, and many services are very busy.
The 1125 from Newport to Llandudno Junction (I assume you mean the junction station for Conwy, not the town station) on a Monday to Friday is the best train to try to aim for as that is the only decently timed train on that route to be scheduled to be a loco hauled 4 car train, so lots of room and comfortable. There are no guarantees in life, but that is the schedule.

Yea to Llandudno Junction but we will be on the Saturday train. Guess I’ll just get the tickets and go with the flow. Leaves Newport at 11:37. We do have assigned seats from Paddington to Bath on GWR. Thx for the help
