A few more details, where to where, when to when. Most of our trips or multi cities or open jaw because they save money and time. With Turkey or Greece simply depends on scheduling and what you want to do. Athens ?? Istanbul?? the Islands ??

You have started several posts about a trip to "Turkey & Greece" with questions that have been somewhat open-ended/vague.

You may be better served if you were to sit down with a travel agent to get some focus on where/what to include and what will work within your budget.

You have not provided 'when' the trip might be nor where you are coming from which would be helpful on what order to do things. (or whether it would matter)

How long do you have to give each country enough time? We did separate trips to Greece and Turkey, and have returned to Greece again.

Turkey's the one with the biggest and best airport.

We're flying to Athens in a couple of weeks from London Heathrow, and I was surprised at the few times flights are available and the relatively high cost.

A1) On some airlines, Turkish Air comes to mind, open jaw and multi stop tickets can cost no more than a RT, sometimes less.

A2) You just have to go to the airline website or Google Flights and test both options.

Sorry & thanks to the replies. I don’t want to bore people with too many details. Just mainly looking for advice from people who have done the same trip. Trip late Sept to mid Oct. (22 day) Athens & Istanbul will be the airports of course. My plan is to split the vac in 1/2 as close to possible.

Turkey: Istanbul, Cappadocia are the only cities I’m staying in.

Greece: Athens, Santorini, Crete (Chania & Heraklion-visiting Takis Shelter @ least 3 days)

I’m planning a multi trip route bc I thought it was more sensible but that’s why I’m asking people their opinions & maybe some advice from others experiences. For example I did a multi trip Croatia to Slovenia & I’m so glad I did that order…for so many reasons. So I’m hoping someone can also share route preferences with me. Yes I can talk to an agent but they are only helping with booking, I want opinions. Thanks

I didn't find any US airlines that fly to Istanbul, using the IST wiki page. Your best bet is probably Turkish Airlines which is very good. You'll have to fly to Athens via Istanbul, but then you'll have a non-stop flight back to the US from Istanbul. Or vice versa. Book a multi-city trip.

Greece: Athens, Santorini, Crete (Chania & Heraklion-visiting Takis Shelter @ least 3 days)

I would think it's more important to decide where you want to be in September and where you want to be in October. And especially how you're going to get from one country to the other. I suspect you may find that you have to fly Athens-Istanbul, which then means getting from Athens to Santorini to Crete to Athens to Istanbul to Cappadocia to Istanbul. That's multiple flights in your 22 days. And 7 itinerary stops. Are you going to rent a car for your stay on Crete? You'll want at least 7 days there - more if you are using public transportation. Remember you lose at least 1/2 day every time you move.

Thank you Chani…
Yes, I’ve found that each country is a logistical nightmare when planning. Yes, I will be renting a car in Chania. Im not confident enough to drive in the other cities in Greece or Turkey. 😂.

The reason why I’m having so much trouble with this itinerary is because of the logistics. Mapping how to get from 1 place to another senisibly. There’s a lot of flying involved & I’m just not sure how easy it is at the airport for the small
Inner city flights & if it’s worth doing that vs. the ferry for some situations.

Thanks for your tips.

B1) Last year I did IAH to a lot of places mostly on one Turkish Air Ticket; ending in Athens
B2) From Athens I did a RT on a local airline to Crete
B3) Then from Athens, on the original Turkish Air ticket I went on to IST and then a few days later to IAH.
B4) All worked easy.
B5) Greece wasn't one of my favorite trips.
