Does travel guard insurance cover airfare? Not answered in their FAQs
We've used them, in conjunction with a tour. You are quoted a price based on whatever costs you have already incurred when you buy the insurance, that is, the tour costs. The instructions were that when we later booked the airfare (or train tickets, for example), we were supposed to contact TG and add the airfare into the coverage, which would then be an additional charge based on the cost of the airfare. Note that if you get a refund or credit from the airline you cannot claim against the insurance. But call and ask directly. They were very responsive to our questions.
...and it is dependent on the Airlines policy. With more airlines offering refundable and changeable fares, by cancelling a trip, you are not "out" all of your airfare, insurance would only cover the amount of loss you incur.
