We are going to be in Llubljana and have an opportunity to stay in Lake Bled for a few days. Is there transportation between these two areas? In reading about car rentals, looks like that's quite a hassle for non-resident. Thank you.
There are trains and buses connecting Ljubljana and the town of Bled. The train station is Lesce-Bled, 3 miles from the town, but you can easily catch a taxi there right to your hotel.
The bus leaves right from town. We did not have an opportunity to compare that with the train, as the bus company went on strike the day we had to travel. So we found a ride back to the train station and returned that way.
When I visited Ljubljana and Bled back in 2015, there was always a large taxi hanging out near the Bled bus station just prior to departure time for buses to Ljubljana, recruiting people for a shared right back to the city at 7 euros per head. That was a very reasonable price. I didn't notice anyone doing the same thing at the Ljubljana bus station. The taxi saved a bit of time (at a wild guess I'd say about 20 minutes), but using the bus wasn't a problem. The bus station was also a good place to show up about the time the buses from Ljubljana were due in if you hoped to find someone to share a taxi to Vintgar Gorge or Lake Bohinj. That's of most value to solo travelers, though.
Hi Grace. Easy, comfortable, inexpensive coach type bus from Ljubljana train station to / from Bled. Goes several times a day, makes two stops in Bled town; get off at whichever is more convenient to your hotel. Have a great trip!
We used the bus, precovid, and it worked out quite nicely. Have a great trip!
We rode bikes to Vintgar Gorge and that was fun. Our bed and breakfast Pension Kaps ( which I highly recommend) had bikes for guest use.
I suggest taking the bus. The scenery isn't much and it takes about an hour to travel from Llubljana to Lake Bled but the bus drops you off at the lake.
We just did this in September. The bus is easy to use and has gorgeous scenery!
