transportation from Florence airport to Hotel Cellai in Firenze

Is it easy to catch a train from the Florence airport to the SMN Train Station, then walk over to Hotel Cellai where we will meet up with the RS tour group?

About a month before your tour, RS will give you a list of all hotels and this will include very specific information about the best way to get to your first hotel. They usually give directions for two or more options (such as taxi, bus, train, etc.). You will find this information inside your online account under “documents.”

In your tour packet you should receive the appropriate RS guidebook for the tour, which will have detailed instructions for getting to the city center from the airport.

As Renee mentions, you'll get information on the available transport options from RSE. Taking the T2 tram from Florence's airport to the San Marco Università stop is easy (tap and pay on board) and very inexpensive (€1.70). You'll then have about a 5 minute walk to Hotel Cellai on Via Ventisette Aprile. If traveling during height of peak tourist season the tram could be crowded and/or if it's poor weather or you prefer not to tote bags any further than absolutely necessary, a taxi will be about €32 and likely take no longer than 25 minutes door-to-door.

Directions to Hotel
This document provides you with the most convenient option(s) for transportation to your first tour hotel. For
additional transit information refer to your Rick Steves’ guidebook. We also recommend using Google Maps to
preview your route. We want to be sure these directions are as accurate as possible. Please send any
corrections or updates to us at [email protected].

Florence Airport (Amerigo Vespucci) to Hotel Cellai
By Taxi
A taxi from the Florence airport to the Hotel Cellai takes about 15-30 minutes, and costs a fixed fare of €22
during the day, and €25.30 at night, plus €1 per bag. Turn right out of the arrivals door and continue to the end
of the building, then turn right and walk about 25 meters to the sign that says “PRIMO DI FILA – WAIT HERE.”
There may be a long line but it moves quickly.
By Tram
The tram from the Florence Airport to the Firenze S.M.N. Central Station departs every 10 minutes, tickets are
€1.50 per person, and the trip takes 20 minutes. Exit the airport arrivals door, turn left, and look for the tram
ahead. You will take the T2 line (direction Unità). Purchase a ticket at the vending machine and stamp it in the
yellow machine to validate when you board, or risk a major fine.
From the tram it is either a 10-minute taxi ride (about €9) to the hotel, or a 10-minute walk. Taxis have to circle
around the pedestrian-only city center, which is why the timing is about the same.
If you plan to take a taxi, get off the tram after 11 stops at Alamanni – Stazione, the main stop of the Central
Station.
If you plan to walk to the hotel, get off the tram after 12 stops at Unità (one stop past the Central Station).
From the Unità tram stop, head north on Piazza dell’Unità Italiana (back toward Central Station). Continue onto
Piazza della Stazione. Turn right onto Largo Fratelli Alinari (at the corner you’ll see a McDonald’s and Dispensa
Emilia). Continue straight onto Via Nazionale. Walk several blocks until you reach the large Piazza della
Independenza (on the left with many trees). Turn right onto Via Ventisette Aprile. Hotel Cellai will be ahead on
the left at #52.
