Time in Dresden vs. Prague

I need help deciding how to allocate our time. We spend 4 days in Berlin, with 1 of those in Potsdam. We will leave Friday morning on the train to Prague, stopping in Dresden. Our Eastern Europe tour begins Sunday afternoon in Prague. Should we spend Friday night in Dresden, or just visit for the day, to allow more time in Prague? The tour allows 1/2 day of free time in Prague on Monday afternoon.
Thanks for your input!

Both cities are rich destinations. I'd take the night in Dresden, but I like museums. Look up the Green Vaults ... Unique sights. Military museum away from the center? 50 paintings by the two Cranachs?

Dresden was perhaps the most beautiful city in Europe and it was very rich with culture--prior to the Allied bombings at the end of WWII. Now it's finally being rebuilt, and is maybe one of the most understated European cities--since the return of its many treasures.
The mountains and river valleys to the east and south of the city are also well worth seeing.
By all means take time to see the city properly--allowing enough time.

The Historic Green Vault requires a timed entry ticket. I was able to pick up a last-minute ticket as a solo traveler during the summer of 2015, but with only part of one day there, I'd look into buying a ticket in advance. That's assuming you want to see it. The regular Green Vault is also worthwhile.

I would spend a night in Dresden, it is a jewel of a city. We attended an organ concert on our night there in the Frauenkirche. The Frauenkirche was heavily bombed during WWII and was rebuilt from donations sent from all over the world. It is magnificent. It is worthwhile to take a peek even if you are not a church or organ fan. I agree with the other comments about the museums there. I loved Dresden.
