I'm landing in Rome tomorrow and just heard from the hotel that the center of the city within the walls is closed to traffic because of the celebration and expected protests around the 60th anniversary of the Rome Treaty. And the Metro stations closest to the hotel are also closed. The hotel has been very helpful giving me directions for Plan B. I spent a semester in Rome when I was in college and know that protest dodging is a skill to develop. On the up side- crossing streets should be much easier with no cars or buses. Wish me luck.
