I am staying an extra day after the end of the Switzerland tour. My flight from Zurich is at 10:15 a.m. If you went on the tour, did you want an extra full day in Bern? That would require a 7 a.m train from Bern to get to the airport around 8:15. Seems like a reasonable option.
Should I stay in Bern or go spend a night in Zurich before heading out?
We are doing the Best of Switzerland tour and we decided to stay in Zurich the last day. It will make it easy to the plane the next morning to fly out.
Our tour starts July 31 st.

You are correct on the logistics (assuming your flight home involves a connection in Europe, arriving 2 hours before should be sufficient). So, look at where there is to see and do in Bern and in Zurich, and see how you want to apportion your time. You could always "split the difference" - spend a half day in Bern after the tour, then go to Zurich for the rest of the day and sleep in Zurich.
Hi. I did this tour last summer. My flight from Zurich was a bit later, but getting there from Bern was very easy. Logistics aside, I did not find the tour time allotted to Bern to be sufficient and given a choice, would opt for more time to explore there.
Enjoy this tour. It is great!
PS: I did not mean to sound so critical of the tour. It is just that Bern is the last place on the itinerary, and I would have enjoyed more time there if I had been able to fit it in.
