For the best of Switzerland in 12 days tour is it wise to purchase a Swiss pass? it is not clear to me how much local and daily transport costs including lifts etc. are included. Thanks.
We just returned from this same tour. I had the same question prior to leaving as I didn't know if the journeys via cable car were included in the tour price or if they were optional. It turns out they were all included. I purchased the Swiss half fare pass prior to leaving as we planned trips to Mt. Pilatus prior to the tour start and Wengen post tour. From Wengen we went up to the Jungfraujoch (Top of Europe) which is fairly expensive. The half fare pass did save us money above what we paid for it for these additions. For the Best of Switzerland in 12 days only it is not necessary and won't save you any money. Your only out of pocket expenses will be trains from Zurich to Lucerne and Bern to Zurich at the end assuming you will fly in and out of Zurich. If you are planning additional trains or mountain tours you will need to calculate the savings to determine if the savings will exceed the cost of the half fare pass.
