We're booked on the Adriatic tour (Slovenia, Croatia, and Mostar) in early/mid-October 2026. Other than Montenegro, what are some places that you recommend visiting before & after our tour (either in those countries, or others nearby)? We once spent 1.5 days in Vienna and are wondering if it's worth going back. What about Prague or Budapest? We've spent a lot of time visiting churches & castles, so what else is there to see/experience? Is it hard or easy to get between those cities? How easy are they for English-only speakers to navigate? Any other places we should consider? ... and while I'm here, any other tips for the RS portion of our tour? Thanks!
That's a great tour. Really fabulous. A friend and I did it August 2025. After the tour we visited Montenegro for 5 days and then flew to Budapest for another 4 days. We had been there the year before and wanted to revisit that amazing city.
In Montenegro we had a private driver and tour guide for two of the 5 days. That was very helpful and a good use of our limited 5 days. We worked with a travel agent in Montenegro that has been recommended on this forum and she was amazing.
Let me know if you need any other information. Regina
If Budapest interests you there are nonstop flights out of Podgorica starting at about $40. But only 2 days a week. So you do the Bay of Kotor ... or more ... then its a short drive to the Podgorica airport. Their are nonstop discount flights from Dubrovnik to Vienna every day but then if you do go to Kotor you have to return to Dubrovnik.
And if you have a full week after flying out, nothing wrong with splitting Budapest with Vienna.
Suggestions for travel before/after the RS Adriatic tour?
How many days are you trying to fill? ( or have available)
Regina, I am glad she worked out for you. Now you know why even with me returning to BiH or Croatia or Montenegro almost every year I have her either do the plan or book the whole thing. One, its easier and two, I just get so much more value thank to what she knows.
Thanks, everyone!
Joe: no set number of days, we're retired! But I would say, in addition to the days on the RS tour, we'd probably like to add a total of 1-2 weeks to our trip. And given that it will be late October when the RS tour ends, we're probably looking at adding days before rather than after.
Diane, if you want to see more of the Balkans I would do it at the start of the tour as late October isn't just the greatest time in the region.
As much as I love Montenegro, for my taste, I think something other than Kotor would be better in late October. You mentioned Vienna and Vienna is great in September and October, so that works perfect before or close to perfect after.
