Sorrento or Naples?

which would you recommend staying in an apartment for 4-5 nights? Or would you prefer to stay somewhere else outside of these for seeing Capri, Amalfi coast, etc. Also is it best to fly home from Naples or somewhere else? We will be staying in Florence for 4-5 nights as well. Not sure as to where yet to fly into Italy, we will only have 10 days there. Thanks

On our last trip, we flew into Naples and out of Rome. I know folks that fly in and out of Florence. For us, flights home from Naples were very early in the am. We could leave midday from Rome.

Sorrento or Naples depends on what you want to see. If its Amalfi, I'd say Sorrento. I've stayed in both Sorrento and Naples, like them both.

Time of year?
Do you want to see what is in Naples or just what is near it? It is not clear from how you phrased it what all you want to see and do.
Check all options--into Florence/Pisa, out of Naples, round trip Rome--all work for this rough plan, so it depends on your actual options and their cost/schedule.

With only 4 or 5 nights and with the Amalfi Coast on your wishlist, I'd go with Sorrento which gets you closer to this two places.

We stayed in Sorrento at an AirBnB for 4 nights six years ago and loved it! Was a great jumping off point to see Amalfi Coast (hired a driver for the day) as well as Capri (we did a boat/Island/swimming day trip) and then had plenty of time to explore Sorrento the city. We had been to Naples before (albeit many years before) and thought it was just ok. Sorrento, on the other hand, we immediately fell in love. Enjoy your trip whichever you chose!

With just 10 days in Italy, Sorrento does make sense to base yourselves to see Capri, the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii. It can serve as a hub to explore the area for several days.

It also will eliminate backtracking if you fly into Florence and return from Naples. You can still see Naples by staying there one or two nights before your return home.
