Portugal——Sintra side trip

My husband and I are going on the Portugal tour soon and will be arriving in Lisbon a couple of days before the tour begins. We’d like to visit Sintra and are thinking we might even spend one night there. Would love guidance on a hotel, etc.

Can't comment on a hotel as I found Sintra to be an easy day trip from Lisbon. Took the train early in the morning and spent the whole day in Sintra. One thing we did though was to take tuk-tuks to the various sites we wanted to visit. That made it easier than waiting for crowded buses and cut back on some of the hiking to and fro entrances. It is a LOT of walking! But it was a highlight of that particular trip.

Did Sintra as a day trip from Lisbon, It was very hot and crowded and for us, not worth it. If you haven't already decided on this, consider Porto. We did two nights there - absolutely loved it! We stayed right on the water.

Also went on a day trip. Visited Pena Palace, the Moorish fortress, and Quinta da Regaleira. We did all 3 places and didn’t feel rushed.

My husband and I stayed 4 nights in Sintra at Chalet Saudade in 2024. I would highly recommend it.

Many of the Sintra hotels are a decent hike from the train station. Saudade
is an easy walk and a lovely place. Would definitely second the recommendation
to stay there if you decide to spend a night.

We also stayed at Chalet Saudade for three nights before our RS tour. Staying in Sintra gave us an opportunity to walk around the town before the crowds came in. We took an early taxi to Peña Palace and the next day did a private tour of the Sintra area out to the ocean. There’s more to Sintra then just the palaces.

Let me join the chorus for Chalet Saudade -- easy walk from train station, great location, very pleasant staff, lovely rooms. Breakfast is in another location a short walk away, not a big deal at all, but something to be aware of. If looking for a restaurant, I highly recommend Incomum: https://incomumbyluissantos.pt/. One minute walk from the Saudade, excellent food and service
