Sept. 4th My Way Europe in 14 days---Eagle's Nest

My sister and I are looking forward to taking another RS tour, our first My Way tour. We have been planning our itinerary for this trip and are really looking forward to it. We have been debating whether to spend the day in Munich traveling to and touring the Neuschwanstein Castle or staying in the city of Munich. The postings that we have read on this forum have had us looking for alternatives. Tonight I found a tour that would pick us up at our hotel and take us through the Bravarian countryside to visit Hitler's Eagle's Nest. This sounds interesting to us. We looked at the tours available and not all are available on Sept. 10th when we will be there. The one that we did find requires 4 participants and we were wondering if there might be anyone on this particular tour that might be interested in joining us. If so please send me a private message.

If you've never visited Munich, by all means stay in town. It's a city worthy of at least 4 days' time, as there are so many travel sights inside the city and also in the suburbs. Many of the travel sights require half a day to see them properly.

Hi Pat! My friend and I will be taking your same tour on Sept 18th. It will be my 2nd tour (did the 21 BOE in 2015) and my friend's 1st. We've been debating on what to do for our Munich days too- so many choices! I read about the Eagles Nest Tour too. While I know I'd love it, my tour buddy wasn't interested so we compromised on a day tour to Rothenburg on der Tauber. We have then added benefit of a whole week in Germany pre-tour, as we wanted to participate in Oktoberfest. One of the day tours we're taking from Munich (pre-tour) is the Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg, Austria, which is about an hour and a half from Munich by train. Whatever you end up choosing, have a fantastic time! It's getting so close now! WOOT!

Let me get this clear. You will definately be starting from a Munich hotel and this will be the only day there?

That doesn't sound like a good use of time. Or, the other way of looking at it is that isn't a good use of money, Munich is much dearer than the area near to the Eagles Nest.

There's no real need for an organised tour, it's very easy to reach by train (and the special bus which all visitors need) but the place itself is basically a small restaurant with views. There is a completely seperate and quite academic historical study centre.

It can only be reached by a good walk or by using a special bus which is quite expensive. The area around it is very nice and can be cheap to reach from Munich (with 2 of you the return train ride would cost the same as the bus ride!!!).

is it your first time in Munich? If so, I suggest spending that day in Munich. Last year, we were in Munich for 4 days and we felt that was not enough time to experience and see the city.
