Purchase a copy of the AA Road Atlas Ireland. We have made several trips to Ireland and found this to be an invaluable resource for rambling around the country. Therein you will find detailed maps with accurate mileage/kilometer indicators. Everything from Motorways (M routes) to National Primary routes (N routes) to Regional Roads (R routes). If you find yourselves in Northern Ireland the Motorways (A routes) and Secondary roads (B routes). We are off the beaten path travelers and I prefer the Regional roads but have utilized the Motorways when time was of the essence. Irish Motorways are top notch. National Primary Roads are well maintained. We personally find the Regional Roads the most fun to drive.

If you enjoy traveling Back Roads, we would suggest Eyewitness Travel Back Roads Ireland - Scenic Routes * Charming Hotels * Authentic Regional Cuisine - 25 Leisurely Drives. Book filled with great maps, directions, and details.
Enjoy your trip.
