I enjoy looking at the posted scrapbooks. This year, so far, only 10 have been posted. I hope more are posted in the remaining 2 1/2 weeks!
I took two tours last year. But the skills to make a scrapbook are beyond me. But I do hope more creative people post a scrapbook about their adventure.
Same here! I really enjoy looking at the scrapbooks.
I always read through all of them. I appreciate the amount of work that goes into creating them.
If I remember correctly there was usually a bunch scrapbooks added during the last few days.
Just chiming in again to say that the Poland tour scrapbook is fantastic! I may have to take that tour.
For those not in the know, here is the location of the scrapbook entries: https://www.ricksteves.com/tours/scrapbooks
OK, now I am surprised there are still so few with only 4 days left.
My favorites so far (random order) are #3 Spain, #8 Scandinavia, #14 Village Italy, #15 Poland.
As of this morning, there are only 26 entries this year - with two more days to submit a scrapbook. I've enjoyed looking at all of them but focused on the tours I want to enjoy next.
Thanks again to all who let us share your adventure.
There's 47 now.
47 WOW this is great! Reading the scrapbooks is one of my favorites things to do. I would like to say a big thank you to all who work so hard on their scrapbooks! Over the years we have taken 6 Rick Steve’s Tours and will do 2 more this year. I have read and reread past year scrapbooks to help us decide what tours to take and have gained so much knowledge about the various tours. After taking some of the tours I totally enjoy reading about the ones we took and looking at the pictures; rekindles fond memories. Once again THANK YOU to all of you past and present for your time and knowledge in putting these scrapbooks online for the rest of us to enjoy!!!
And now 62!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm going to have to request a day off of work to look through all these. :-)
I appreciate the effort that goes into making these. I find them to be a great resource in trip planning.
Here's a rookie question- can the program used for the scrapbooks here on the Forum produce hardcopy books?
I love reading the scrapbooks. A big thank you to everyone who creates one. I appreciate the time and effort that goes into them.
Regarding whether the program used to create the scrapbooks creates printable photobooks, generally people use the free websites hosted by wix or weebly---at least when I did mine in 2022, the rules didn't allow you to use the photobook websites.
As far as the skills needed, the turning your ideas into a webpage is pretty easy, it is template-driven and if you can use Word or Google Docs you can figure out how to make a website.
Ruthjoec, thank you. Wow, all that work and no hardcopy to keep, even if one did have to pay for the hardcopy.
I've been reading one or two per night to unwind. It seems I never tire of looking at people's travel photos, even people I don't know. #30 South Italy gave a shout out to the forum. Hi Kathleen, if you're reading this :-)
I spent a few weeks this winter creating a physical scrapbook of my tour, and then another few weeks creating a website scrapbook to submit. It took a LOT of cups of tea to get them both finished, but it's so much fun reliving the memories :)
Amy Thanks for posting a scrapbook. I've enjoyed all of them.
Amy, I enjoyed your scrapbook. Thanks for creating and posting it!
I love the My Way France 'not-so-Solo' scrapbook by 'savannah'! That young lady is an inspiration for those thinking of a solo adventure. It's nice to be reminded that not only can one enjoy traveling without companions from home, the group you're with may very well become great friends.
I think two causes for the paucity of entries is not knowing about them and then the skill it takes to create a competitive scrapbook.
We've been on a few RS tours over the years and not once did the guide mention this forum, let alone the scrapbook contest. With the thousands of people that take RS tours each year I think the number of scrapbook entries would jump if each guide at the farewell dinner simply mentioned people could upload and share scrapbooks.
Second, artistic talent is something special. I know it would be futile for me to create one with hopes of winning. I don't even have great pics to start with, my approach is take a lot since they're free and then hope I caught something interesting when I look at them back home :-) If RS wanted to encourage more entries they could do something (in addition to the existing contest) such as giving away a guidebook of one's choice to 1 out of every 20 entries or something like that.
I always make a physical photo "scrap" book, which takes hours, which I really enjoy browsing years after the trips. I can't imagine making two separate scrapbooks. If there was some way the print the RS scrapbook, even at a cost, I might consider it. But going through the process twice- Yikes!
