I first came here looking for advice on independent travel. And after reading all the positive comments on the my way alps tour over the last few years, I decided to give it a try. My tour, stating on Sept. 14th, is also sold out.

Hi, my husband and I will be joining you the 16th-27th. We actually are arriving the 15th.
We are excited about our first RS tour and to celebrate our 30th anniversary!

One of the best ways to do research for the tour is to look at the RS scrapbooks. They helped me hugely.

Wonderful! I've stayed at the first 3 (all lovely!!) and heard great things about the rest. You'll love them all!

Sadly, our tour still says we'll know the details on Aug 17 but I'm checking daily.

We're getting so excited! Two questions:
1. For those flying out of Geneva on 9/27, who have you booked for transport to the airport?
2. How are restaurants where we're going with plate sharing? We've both had weight loss surgery and can't eat much at one sitting so we often share.

1. When we've flown out of Geneva, coming from our last stop in Chamonix, we have booked Mountain Drop Offs. Done it 2 times and been very happy with them!
2. I love your question about food/ plate sharing! Not the exact same situation as you but DH and I are definitely eating a lot less and tend to share a meal instead of having our own but that wasn't the case the last time we were in Europe so I haven't explored the situation, yet. I hope someone chimes in with their experiences.

Yes! I was pleasantly surprised to see two people listed on the roster from Portsmouth. We're looking forward to the trip and meeting everyone!

I took this tour in late June. Regarding the topic of plate sharing - husband and I both have reduced capacity issues, so I feel qualified in answering this question. :D
I can tell you that in most restaurants on this tour, our strategy was to order a dinner salad and an entree, or an appetizer, and entree, and a side salad. At a pizza restaurant, in Kastelruth, we shared a pie (they're small) and a dinner salad. The servers never even blinked and were happy to take our order. We also shared a dessert, when we have room. Most of these restaurants cater to tourists, so they are used to seeing all kinds of orders.
When we ate lunch at a restaurant in Seiser Alm, we ordered a burger and a plate of 3 dumplings, I could barely finish one dumpling so did a takeaway, and proceeded to finish the rest for snack over the next couple of days. No issues with food spoilage and we kept it for a day until we got to Fussen (where we had a fridge).

This will be our 2 RS tour. We have not booked our transportation to Geneva and plan to use Mountaindropoff too. Anyone know if they pick up right at hotel?

Yes, mruffin - the 2 times we've used MountainDropoffs in the past, they picked us up right at our hotel. I will point out that it can be scary not hearing from them about what time they will be there and having no Re-confirmation until about the day before. They WILL get in touch with you, but I think they want to make sure no changes with the airline's timing, etc.
We've always had great drivers and end up getting to the Geneva quicker than they anticipate. Buckle up! :)

For others considering the methods to transfer from Chamonix to Geneva: there are alternatives to private transfers. When we did the tour I looked at using the train. There is no direct train: you must transfer from a French line to a Swiss line in another city. It is possible. More direct and much less expensive is the bus line which picks up at the bus station in Chamonix and drops off at two locations: in the center of town in Geneva and the airport. There are many buses every day. The bus was comfortable. It was a nice drive down the valley which is filled with towns and cities with very familiar names if you are at all a fan of snow skiing competition and the Winter Olympics. Very convenient! We took the bus to the airport and then a taxi to the hotel where we stayed in Geneva.

I used Mountain Dropoffs too. I then took the train to Paris as I had booked a flight home the next day. I had to change trains in Lyon I think and onward to CDG airport. I spent the night at the Hilton airport and flew out the next morning. With hindsight, I might have flown home from Geneva connecting in JFK, to avoid the long train journey. At the time of planning, I didn’t want the hassle of JFK. In hindsight, I might do differently next time.

Jon and Jennifer from Minnesota here and we'll be on the tour starting Sept 16. It's our first group tour and we're looking forward to having someone else do the driving!

For those of you who have done this trip in the past, how much - if at all - did you need cash/currency? We were in Australia a couple years ago and never once had to touch local currency as everything we did was tap to pay/card. One question specifically is whether any cash is needed for rest areas/restrooms.

I'm Mitzi from TN and will be traveling with my husband, Chris, on this Alpine journey, also beginning 16 September.

We've been on this tour 2x before in both '25 and '24. We definitely needed Euro coins for the toilet stops. Ranged from
.50, 1 or 2 Euros.
Because our tours were never able to make it to the Zugspitze due to inclement or super cloudy weather on both travel days, I don't know how one pays for that excursion. The first year, we thought we were going to do it and all paid our guide cash so she could get the group rate (?) if I remember correctly. However, having that much cash on your person may not be necessary. We found tap / card available for payment just about everywhere else.
