Does anyone have good suggestions for tours from Rome to Pompeii and return that include a trip to Vesuvius -- either from Termini Station or other location in the city or from Fiumicino airport?
That is nearly impossible to do because of the distances. I doubt if you could find such a tour. The big issue is the travel time to get to Pompeii and the amount time you would want to spend inside. I suppose you can run through Pompeii in a couple of hours when it could be closer to four or five hours. And there the time to get to Vesuvius is another three hours for just peak over the edge. Then throw in a couple of rest room stops, lunch, etc., and your day is gone.
The airport is even further away so you would want to start in Rome. You need to spend a little time looking at an Italy map and maybe a good guide book. It is difficult to do a day trip to just Pompeii from Rome. And it is very easy to do it on your own schedule.
I agree that trying to do all of that in one day is too much. We stayed 2 nights in Pompeii and spent over 5 hours just walking around the archaeological site. We didn't make it to Vesuvius, however, but took the train on to Sorrento from Pompeii. I think that if you tried to do this as a day trip on your own from Rome that most of your time would be spent just getting to the sites. I do see that on the app Get Your Guide, there is a day trip available from Rome to both of those places, it is a 12-hour day and includes lunch. We have used this platform several times in different countries and have always had good results.

Yes, we did a day tour from Rome that visited both Vesuvius and Pompeii on the same day. It was through City Wonders, but this was back in 2019.
Not sure if it’s still offered. It was a long day, but we were happy with the experience.
