Rick Steves calendar

Our RS travel friends told us last Thursday that Rick Steves office had sent them a 2019 travel calendar. He wondered if we had received ours. Our friends have signed up for their 5th RS tour and we are signed up for our 6th (Best of Ireland). We still haven't received our calendar (4 days since they received theirs). Have you received yours? We've enjoyed them in the past and hopefully, ours will arrive soon.

Got ours today. I am sure they were mailed low priority (i.e., low cost) so it is up to the USPS when they get delivered in your area. It is Christmas time so there could be a large variation.

Janet,

Are the calendars only available to tour members, or can they be purchased separately?

Maybe you have to have taken a tour in 2018?

Anyway, I wouldn't put a lot of stock in their computer system. Our calendar came with a letter thanking us for taking our 1st RS tour (it was our 4th).

Oh I didn't get one. Boo. Probably won't either. Boo.

Is it a wall calendar or a desk one?

I got one last year (first one ever), but nothing so far for 2019. I really likes it. I have been looking to buy one but don't see it available anywhere.

Guess I will check with the office.

We got ours last week. I love that it notes European holidays.

I got mine last week, too. I am using it for my 2019 trip planning which will include a RS tour of Scotland. It seems appropriate.

First I've heard of the calendars, maybe because my first RS tour will be in May 2019. I just emailed them to find out if the calendars are available to those of us who have not yet been on a tour. I'll update this when I get an answer.

This is news to me! I had taken a Rick tour in 2017, but did not receive a 2018 calendar. Hope I will receive one this year as I did do a Rick tour in 2018, and have already signed up for next year's trip!

I have taken 16 RS tours, including one this year, and received his 2019 calendar more than 2 weeks ago. Nice pictures on it. Been to most of those places.

This is Mary Ann in Rick's Marketing Department.

A 2019 wall calendar was produced in limited quantities for those who toured with us in 2016, 2017 or 2018. They were mailed out around December 10 and were sent one to a household.

They are not for sale, but we do have a few extras available.

If you feel you should have received one, please email me and provide your name and snail mail address. Unfortunately, we won't be able to send additional copies if someone in a household has already received a calendar.

Thanks for your understanding.

Mary Ann (maryann@ricksteves.com)

December 21 update:

The calendars are in the process of being delivered by the Postal Service. If you think you should be receiving one, please wait a few days before contacting me. You need to allow time for the Postal Service to catch up with the holiday mail volume.

Then if one hasn't arrived by the first of the year, please let me know.
Thanks.....and happy holidays!

Maybe for next year have enough to sell them in the store. Could be a bonus for the purchase of set dollar amount or with specific items.

They are really nice and I think would sell well.

Just a thought.

I hope the marketing department takes note of Mark's response. I agree that it would be nice to be able to purchase one and I think it would sell pretty well.

I email RS yesterday and got the same response that Mary Ann posted here. Too bad because I wanted to buy a calendar. I didn’t expect one for free since I won't take my first RS tour until May. I’m sure calendars would sell if made available to everyone.

Thank you, Mary Ann. I have sent you a follow up email.

I like the fact that while they certainly market the RS tours and books, they are not so overt that I feel like I have a billboard in my kitchen.

I love free calendars. And to the marketing department - yes, they do matter. I've tossed at least one calendar from a different tour company b/c I hated them. I've kept my RS calendar. ;-)

Having said that, I'll bet RS could easily sell calendars.

Liz,

I have been getting surprise gifts ever since my first tour with RS. Nothing super expensive, but always something nice. I'm sure they will find some other surprise to send their tour members.

I have been on eight RS tours and went on one this year. I am already signed up for a tour in 2019. My two sisters, who just went on their first tour with RS in April of this year (with me), both got a calendar more than a week ago but I did not. They live a few blocks from me. Hope I get one.

We went on tours 2016, 2017, and 2018 and we're signed up for one in 2019 and we still have not received our calendar.

Update: our calendar came in today's mail.

Well, I'm glad to see that a lot of you have received your calendar. I'm still checking the mail daily for mine. I will be contacting the Rick Steves office on January 2 if my calendar doesn't arrive soon.

I live on the Big Island of Hawaii, where mail always takes longer. Just got our calendar yesterday.
