Our flight home after our Tuscany tour leaves Florence airport at 6:30am. Suggestions on hotel to stay at the night before, and should we plan to arrive at the airport at 3:30am? thanks for any advice!

Stay in Florence and get your hotel to order a taxi. The airport opens at 4:00 am. If your flight is to another Schengen airport, you only need to be there 2 hrs before departure

If your flight goes to LHR (London), you will have to do Schengen exit processing in Florence, so you would need to be there earlier than if your flight goes to Amsterdam or Paris for your connection to the US bound flight. Checked bags or carry-on only?
CJean has a great suggestion to have the hotel call/set up the taxi pickup.

We've done this a couple of times and will again in November - stay at a hotel in Florence and get your hotel to arrange a taxi for a 4am pickup (that way if the taxi is a couple of minutes late, no stress). It's not a very large airport but getting there early will relieve any stress - then get a coffee and pastry and relax until your flight. Any decent hotel should be able to arrange this - we've stayed at Hotel Spadai a couple of times and their front desk people are super helpful.
