Recalculating travel Insurance……

RS tours has updated their tour policies for 2023. One key change is that the refund for needing to leave a tour due to Covid is no longer a pro-rated amount, but a straight $200/day. If you originally calculated your trip insurance with the idea that you would get a pro-rated refund, so no need to cover any of those costs, you may want to recalculate.

Should “the worst” happen and you become ill on tour, your financial risk is now different. I am not suggesting that the RS policy is unfair, only that it is different and travelers should be aware of this in their risk assessment for coverage.

Heidi here from Tour Sales & Service. I'd like to add that if you must leave your tour after it has begun for a Creditable Event (think medical or family emergency), a pro-rated credit of $200 per day may be issued. This is not insurance and is not intended as a substitute for comprehensive travel and health insurance. Complete details are in the Tour Conditions on our website: https://www.ricksteves.com/tours/tour-conditions#cancel.
