Question - Hallstatt

Hello,
A quick question for those who have done the Germany, Austria, and Switzerland tour. The itinerary says Sleep on Lake Hallstatt. Did you sleep in Hallstatt or did you sleep elsewhere nearby?
Thank You
Suzie

When we took the tour several years ago we actually slept in Hallstatt in a hotel overlooking the lake. But since things might have changed, the only way to get a definitive answer is to send an email to the RS office.

We slept in Hallstatt on our GAS tour. I agree with TC, this is a question for the tour office, not every tour is always the same.

We were in Hallstatt. Right on the square. It was wonderful. Based on the itinerary, you get off the bus and load on a boat. (I took a large tote with my overnight things and left the bigger bag in the bus). You get a wonderful tour of the lake and then pull up to a dock where you will go to the hotel.

During our tour in 2016, we stayed at a sort of townhouse/condo complex across the lake, and toured the lake in a boat to get to the town itself. The townhouses each had 2-3 bedrooms, a shared kitchen, and a patio with views of the lake and mountains. Our tour group of 24 had maybe 5 units. It was kind of nice to party a little more noisily that one night, because any neighbors were far enough away that we wouldn't disturb anyone.

I suppose it all depends on time of year and availability in the town itself. No matter where you stay, you won't be disappointed. RS knows how to make any situation memorable.

I’ve been on two tours that included Hallstatt as part of the itinerary, one in June and one in early December. We stayed in Hallstatt both times.

We stayed at a small resort on the opposite side of the lake. You had to take a boat to get there. And the last boat leaves at 6 PM from Halstad. I was on GAS trip last September 2023. But I was plenty glad we were on the opposite side of the lake. Halstad was overrun with Chinese tourist.

I did the Germany and Austria tour last summer and we stayed at a lovely hotel in Hallstatt that overlooked the water. It is a pretty small town so I don't know that there are many hotel options but it was very picturesque.

You'd better call and ask the tour office. I think you have to read each carefully chosen word in the description, and if it says "on Lake Hallstatt" I would interpret that to mean it could be any of the towns on the lake. Perhaps they just can't guarantee hotels in Hallstatt for every tour rotation. But you'd better call and ask, and report back here.

I'm assuming that you are going on that tour this year (2024). It look like Hallstatt is no longer on this tour in 2025.

The GAS tour I went on in 2018 stayed at a resort on the opposite side of the lake (like others have mentioned).

I just saw what Nancy said about GAS for 2025. That’s too bad as it’s really a quaint village and was lovely having a meal on the lake under the trees.
