Question about Best of south Italy-what to do during an extra day in Naples? (Post tour)

Dear Fellow travelers,
My hubby and I are taking the Best of South Italy tour and we decided to stay an extra day at Naples. So, I have a question, what type of activities o what type of places would you recommend us to do or to visit during that extra day? We would like to visit or to do something that is not covered by the RS tour.
Thanks

I don't know what the tour covers, but Rick provides his top sights for many major cities, including Naples, right on this website:

The Capella Sansevero now requires prebooking, and it often sells out. That's a ticket you should get online in advance if you want to see the Chapel.

The cemetery is currently closed. I'd check its status online shortly before your trip

I believe the catacombs also require prebooking; but I'm not positive about that.

The Chapel was included in the 2022 SOI tour. We stayed an extra day after this tour, slept in! and went up to the Castel Sant’Elmo fortress and then walked along the waterfront. In the evening we went with 2 other tour members who were also staying a day extra and had a divine dinner at the final tour dinner restaurant (it was that good, we went back). It felt good to slow down a bit and just absorb Naples but you could also catch a ferry and do Sorrento again.

The tour itinerary says it does cover the Cappella Sansevero - one possibility for your extra time is to visit Herculaneum.

Two suggestions above, I heartily recommend. Take the funicular to Castel sant’Elmo for a fantastic view of the city, Bay of Naples, Capri and Vesuvius. You can visit Herculaneum, a short walk after taking the Circumvesuviana train.

We spent an extra day in Naples after the tour in 2019. I think there were 6-8 of us that did that and it was kind of fun to have some of the group still there. We mostly walked around Naples, the port, etc..and did some last minute shopping. In the evening, someone suggested that we go to a concert at one of the churches ( Gesu Nuovo) and listen to a concert. It was either a donation or 5€ and it was a great way to wrap up our trip.

We went to the Cappella Sansevero on the RS tour last May. The sculptures are amazing. While staying in Sorrento you have a free day to walk around and enjoy Sorrento or take the ferry to Capri. I’d walk around the town and go to Capri from Naples on your extra day then you can experience both.
