Need suggestions where to spend 4 days before the tour, then 3 days after the tour. Here is my initial thought…
1) Arriving in Zurich at 1:05 pm, train to either Schaffhausen or Stein Am Rhine, sleep here
2) spend the day here, sleep here
3) go to Zurich early, sleep in Zurich
4) go to Luzern
5) tour starts.
After the tour …
1) one more day in Bern
2) ? Basel or Freiburg or Strasbourg or ?
3) ?
4) Zürich
5) fly out of Zurich 2 pm.
We will be using public transportation only.
Thank you everyone. I know I can count on this forum, like I did in the past.
I traveled back to the Berner Oberland for 3 days after the tour. It's what most people recommend and I recommend it, too.
Just some quick thoughts-
I'd suggest more nights in Lucerne and less time in Zurich. Also, the Zurich airport is easy to access from several Swiss cities, so you don't need to stay in Zurich the night before, unless you have an early flight.
The more time you spend in the BO, the happier you will be. No one is ever ready to leave.
Strasbourg is charming, and I think you'd enjoy the area, especially if you appreciate the local wine. I'd allocate your post- tour days here.
Have a great trip.
Stein Am Rhine is amazing……gorgeous little village that you will love touring…….we loved walking around the old part of Zurich……and a stay on the river in Hotel Balances in Luzern is delightful
Strasbourg is a wonderful city to explore. I would stay there after your tour ends.
Thanks everyone! Our pre tour is firming now. Our post tour is still hazy. Decided not to go back to OB. We have been to Colmar, spent 2 days there, so would Strasbourg kind of more or less the same? Any thoughts? Thanks again.
