We were planning to take a train from Paris Gare Montparnasse to Chartres on Sunday May 6th for the start of the Loire Valley/South of France tour. I just learned that the regular train service from Montparnasse is cancelled for that day
Does anybody have any suggestions for alternate transportation?

Again, duplicate question with good answers under the French section. Lets keep the answers there.
I am fairly certain that SNCF can and will do a workaround. After all, these are regional trains that provide transportation to a large area of the country. You generally don't need to purchase tickets in advance and I am sure the SNCF site will have suggestions and rerouting information for you very soon.
On Trainline.eu you will find the early trains are not cancelled but are leavig from Paris Austerlitz station.
I let the RS Tour folks know about this situation. The tour roster is probably set, more or less, because the final tour payment was due last week. Perhaps RS would be able to notify other tour members.
