New Best of Munich, Salzbug,Vienna tour and free time in Salzburg question

I've searched the forums but didn't come up with the answers needed here.

We are booked on this tour at the end of November/beginning of December and are wondering about the free time in Salzburg. I believe it's the second night in Salzburg that has free time available, itinerary quoted below for that day:

"Salzburg is the perfect town for a walking tour, and that's how we'll spend our morning: strolling under the wrought-iron signs that line Getreidegasse, going for Baroque at the Salzburg Cathedral, and exploring an ancient cemetery. The rest of your afternoon is free for wandering through Salzburg's magnificent gardens, hiking up the fortress hill for a panoramic view, or wandering through the lanes and shops. Later this evening we'll regroup for a dinner concert featuring the work of Salzburg's favorite son: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. No bus. Walking: moderate."

Does the free-time mentioned allow time to take a Sound of Music tour (looking at Bob's tours)? Not sure what time our dinner concert is so the time frame is what I need to know about. Cheesy or not, I really want to do this SOM tour! Bob's Tours offers an afternoon tour starting at 14:00 and it's supposed to take about 4 hours.......will that interfere with our dinner concert that evening? I'm not sure what time that dinner concert starts or when we need to meet for it......

This sounds like a question for the Tour Office. Maybe give them a call?

6PM is pretty early for dinner and concert so I think you can fit it in. Another option is to miss out on the morning activities and take Bob's morning tour instead. Then you will be safe. Strolling the Getreidegasse and looking at the cathedral and cemetery is something you can do on your own. Don't forget the Christmas market will be taking place then, too.

And another thought is to skip the dinner/concert. Mozart is not everyone's preference.

Your best bet is to call the office. I imagine others will be looking for a SOM tour, too. I had not got that far in my thoughts, but I just might look into that, too. I have never indulged before and it might be fun.

I did call the tour office and the dinner concert is tentatively set for 7:30pm, which would work just fine to take the SOM tour from 1400-1800....but now I'm wondering if we'd be missing out on other activities in Salzburg by doing so.

I think I may play this by ear.

Me, too. Four hours is a lot to commit to at this point. Sometimes I find that when I pre-plan too much, I lose something in spontaneity.

I agree with Debbie that you could certainly skip the included RS walking tour and take the morning SOM tour if that is something you really want to do. I loved Bob's SOM tour so I do recommend it. After the tour you could see some of things from the walking tour on your own and visit the Christmas market before the evening dinner concert. It would make for a full day but that's what's nice about tours, you usually get time on the bus the next day to catch up on your rest.

Do allow time for the Christmas Markets in Salzburg. We were there in early Dec. 2015 and loved just strolling around, drinking gluhwein and checking out the booths. Also, the action on the temporary ice rink near the Dom. Beautiful time for a trip to Salzburg.
