Hello-
We have an upcoming MyWay tour beginning in June in Salzburg. We have some local friends we haven't seen in ages and want to meet up with for dinner. Aside from a meet and greet, what is covered at the 5:00 Tour Guide meet up and how long do they typically run? Can we skip out early without being rude? Thanks!
I can't speak specifically for this tour, but the meet ups are really an important time, because that is when your guide goes over everything you can expect on the tour. I'd say they've been about 1 hour to 1-1/2 hours long. They are very informative, and kind of set the tone. Then from there it's usually time to head to dinner. There's no reason to miss the meeting or dinner with your friends. You can definitely mention to your guide upon your arrival, that you'll be heading out at whatever time to meet up with your friends for dinner.
When we did this tour the escort took us on a walking tour of the town after the meet up. After that most of us went together for dinner at a local beer hall (Die Weisse) near the hotel (great bonding time). You might be better off planning dinner with your friends on the next day when everyone is on their own.
Maybe because we didn't have a guide leading us, the group worked together to compare notes on what to do and where to eat. We watched out for each other more than any other tour I have been on. It's a great tour!
Don’t miss your first group meeting, it’s the time when you learn about your guide, the tour and your fellow tour mates. Purposely missing this does not set a good tone for the rest of your tour.
When we did that tour the meeting wasn’t very long. An hour and a half at most. We did not have a walking tour after. Everyone just went their own way for dinner. You should be able to easily attend the meeting, meet your tour mates and your leader, get important information, and then meet up with your friends for dinner. Maybe pick a restaurant near your hotel so you can get there easily and quickly. Enjoy the tour, it’s incredible!
Is it not possible to meet your friends on the second night you're in Salzburg (or another night if you are arriving earlier)? That seems like an easy solution. I also recommend not skipping the group meeting as they cover a lot of logistics that are necessary for a smooth tour.
