Has anyone who has taken My Way Italy tour tried to be at the Vatican in time for the 10:00/10:30 papal audience at St. Peters?
It looks look you would have to separate from the group and take an early train from Assisi to Termini or San Pietro that would arrive sometime after 9:00 a.m.
If you are not IN the Square by 8-815 AM you will be a closer to the back than the front.

I have never tried it, but my brother did. The Vatican will mail you a letter on their letterhead typed on an old typewriter. The letter itself is a nice souvenir. The letter will get you by the standing room and go to the seats near the front.
Are you going to be outside. We were outside and were in the last row, seats in the corner near the center aisle, in the last section. His route is shaped like a T (the bottom of the T the stage). We were in the corner on the left side looking at the T. He came right behind us and right next to us. The section behind the T is standing room, so you can always stand there and have a great view. BUT, we were there in February, there were only 3 sections deep from the stage. We were there at 8:30 and he first appeared at 9:30. Workers there told us he comes out early because he doesn't like to keep everyone waiting. He can see how crowded it gets, so don't count on a 10:00/10:30 appearance, you might miss him. We were out of there by 11:00.
