Can anyone who has taken the My Way Alpine tour tell me which RS book is included in the tour kit? Is it the Switzerland book or the Vienna, Salzburg & Tirol Guidebook?
As I recall, you get a special booklet with excerpts from several different guidebooks that cover the areas you're visiting. Fantastic trip. Loved the Dolomites.
Hi Kathleen,
We did this tour in 2018 and loved it. It was our first tour after traveling independently. They take the appropriate sections from several of the RS books and create a book for the tour. The sections in our book are: Salzburg, The Dolomites, Bavaria and Tirol, Lauterbrunnen Valley and The French Alps. You can tell is is cobbled together because there is no Index or Table of Contents or other general travel info. But it is 320 pages of great information.
Several of us from the tour used our day in Salzburg to go to Berchtesgaden, Germany to take The Eagle's Nest tour with Eagle's Nest Historical Tours: www.eagles-nest-tours.com. They are described in the book and Rick gives detailed instructions on how to get there. We had all arrived in Salzburg a day or two early to do some sightseeing there.
Thank you both for you reply. I never would have guessed the correct answer would be neither book but something better.
Kathleen, Rick does this on other multi-country tours as well. I’ve done one tour that had a special combo book but I can’t remember if it was Germany, Austria and Switzerland or if it was the 21 Day Best of Europe.
Have a great time!
Kathleen-we were scheduled to go in 2020 :( and received the most recent copy of this special guidebook. It's definitely super helpful! We are scheduled on one this September. Crossing my fingers that we get to go. Enjoy!!
We're scheduled to take this trip end of August. Our tour kit is supposed to be ready in March. Yes!!
Sometimes they put multiple books together in one for the tour kits. They might do that in this situation. Ordered my tour kit yesterday, yeah!!
I'm taking this tour in May/June and received the tour kit last week. As others have mentioned, RS pieced together a book specifically for this tour, which is titled "My Way Alpine Europe". They also included a French, Italian and German phrase book. It's really quite nice! Happy Travels!!
The phrase book is a nice touch.
