Munich, Salzburg, Vienna Hotels

Has anyone that has taken this tour have the names of the hotels that you stayed in? I will be going in November and wanted to get a jump start on the hotel research. Thank you in advance.

I would call the office and hear what they have to say. They do not always use the same hotels.

Thanks, Jules. The tour office has been super busy and they take quite a while to respond. I didn’t want to bog down their emails. I have taken several RS tours and am aware that they don’t always use the same hotels. I just wanted to get an idea of the locations and quality of hotels they have used on the past.

We are going on September 10th. Our hotels are: Munich- Hotel Excelsior Munich, Vienna-Hotel Kaiserhoff Wien. There is a very recent review on the page for this tour that mentions the hotels being very good.

We are going in November as well. RS listed names of 1st and last hotels on itinerary.
Munich: Hotel Isator
Vienna: Hotel AM Stephanplatz

Thank you everyone. That Hotel Isartor looks like a relic from the Cold War. The other Munich hotel is beautiful and a stark contrast. That said the Isartor is a superior location.

We loved a hotel Stephenplatz when we were there precovid. We were traveling on our own, not a tour. Great location, breakfast, service, and the rooms and bathrooms were very modern. Safe travels!

Hi April, we’ve also stayed at the Hotel AM Stephanplatz in Vienna for five nights during an independent trip. It’s a lovely hotel across the pedestrian street from St. Stephan’s Cathedral and extremely handy to the subway stop nearby.

The Hotel upgraded my husband & me to the balcony room looking straight across to the beautiful tiled roof of the cathedral - an amazing room!

Hi. I did this tour twice.

Munich: both times at Hotel Torbräu near Isartor. Great location and really nice hotel. I plan to stay there again. Easy walk to Viktualienmarkt and Marienplatz. Also easy to reach via S-bahn from Airport.

Salzburg: both times on the opposite side of the river from the Altstadt but super convenient for walking to the sites on either side. Both pleasant, kinda non-descript. Nice old neighborhoods.

Hallstatt: the one and only Grüner Baum. Best place to be in that town, IMO. Fantastic hotel.

Vienna: first tour: K+K Maria Theresia in the Spittelberg section. This was in Christmas market time, and I really adored the tiny streets and the local festivities and restaurants. I would stay there again. The second time around - well, I think the hotel was typical of some in the pedestrian center - a vintage building in a super central location. I cannot recall the name. Let's say what it has going for it is location, location.

All had internet, functional facilities, good breakfasts, and handy locations. For memorable charm: Hotel Torbräu and Grüner Baum, for sure.

Enjoy. This is a great tour.

I also took this tour during the Christmas markets season and loved it! The hotel in Vienna was Pension Nossek located in the center of town. Old fashioned with decent breakfast and spacious rooms. This was in December 2019. The other hotels were the same as Debbie just posted.

Hi Mo!
Yes, we had a wonderful time didn’t we? I will always remember your intention to ice skate everywhere we went. And, our hard to forget evening in Hallstatt for a unique Krampus run!

Hi, Mo and Judy. Yes, I was wondering if and when I could get back to Hallstatt for Dec 5 and the Krampuslauf.

@April - I have found Hallstatt in winter to be quite nice and charming to walk through and up and over - all the winding paths! I hope you enjoy your tour.

Hi, we took the Munich, Salzburg and Vienna tour last Nov/Dec. It was excellent. Hotel Isartor in Munich is wonderful! Great location, views, breakfast… That was a great tour! Enjoy!!

Hi Judy! Krampus-what a night!!!! This was so much fun. Still skating! I just got back from Ohio and I had that Church choir/orchestra/organ music on my playlist. Then I see your post. So many great memories. Hugs from me and Jim.

Hi buddy Debbie. Good for you to try to get back for Krampus. We are thinking of Italy next year. We have a trip to Indonesia planned, so we’ll see how time and money go and try to fit in Europe. Hope you are doing great. Hugs.

This is why I do love doing a tour- the friends that you meet and stay in contact with. In fact, I am planning this MSV tour with a friend that I met on a RS tour of eastern France in 2009!

I completely agree that Hallstatt is lovely at any time, really. I am looking forward to this tour very much.

We're doing this tour next month and the first hotel (Hotel am Viktualienmarkt) was completely booked for an additional night. Even though I reached out to the hotel 6 months prior, I guess I waited too long. I ended up reserving a night at Hotel Isartor. Glad to read that it's a nice hotel considering we were quoted EUR 213,00 per night.

The hotels are fine. You will be given the list well in advance of the start of your tour. And, they don't always stay in the same hotels. I was on this tour last year starting right after Thanksgiving. Bring warm winter clothes. It's a great tour. Enjoy. Krampus was not something I would ever look forward to again. We were hit in the legs with horse whips by them and our group had to retreat back into the hotel. They were very nasty creatures and I could see how they terrorize children, they certainly frightened the adults. Kind of ruined the beauty and peace and quiet in the evening of Lake Hallstatt.

Hotel Isartor in Munich is very basic but an amazing location. Easy walk to the Viktualienmarkt and the Marienplatz and also so convenient to the S-bahn to and from the airport. In fact, we often take the train back to Munich after other tours and stay at the Hotel Isartor overnight, as the flight home is more direct for us. The hotels in Salzburg and Vienna are more traditional and much more attractive. Seehotel Grüner Baum in Hallstatt is simply spectacular with a great sauna/steam room. We went in December for the Christmas markets, and it was magical!

I just finished this tour 2 days ago and stayed at Hotel Am Vikualientmarkt in Munich (I highly recommend Hotel Schickler, over this hotel, for an additional night, in Marienplatz, much nicer breakfast and spacious room, 155 euros), Hotel Trumer Stube in Salzburg, Hotel Bruner Baum in Hallstatt (a treasure on the lake where you will eat as group), and Hotel Am Stephansplatz in Vienna (consider NH airport hotel or pension if staying an additional night instead of paying 270 euros, Moxy Airport Hotel is a 15 min. walk underground). All hotels are centrally located and very nice. Hotel Am Vikualientmarkt is the only hotel where I ended up with a single bed. The bus to Vienna's airport is 9.50 euros per person and a cab is 55 euros if called by Hotel Am Stephansplatz. Buy the all day pass (Zones M-5) at Munich Airport (Zone 4) and consider visiting Dachau (Zone 2) that day. There is no additional cost. Have a great time!
