Planning on being in Munich for the Portugal v Germany game on June 4th. Wondering what suggestions, you have for what to do in and around Munich. We are 4 travelers; myself age 57 and my son and nephews ages 19-25. Wondering if visiting a nearby country or just staying in Germany is best. Also, where should we stay?
If you haven't already gotten a guidebook for Germany, I would suggest getting one. You could easily spend several days in Munich , depending on your interests. Or you could explore the nearby areas in the Bavarian Alps. Or you could go to Salzburg for a day or 2. You might want to poke around the suggestions within the Explore Europe Germany section, looking at the At A Glance pages of the various places: https://www.ricksteves.com/europe/germany
There is a lot you can do in Munich and Bavaria. If you guys are into beer, there are some wonderful breweries in and around Munich. Weihenstephan and Aylinng are two favorites. You can also visit the Zugspitze mountain and go up to the top and hike and even spend a day or two in Salzburg a lovely little town.
Best of all is you don't need a car to explore.
Salzburg is one of my favorite places, and it’s an easy train ride from Munich. If you venture just a bit further south, you’ll be in the midst of the alps. Werfen has a wonderful fortress. You might enjoy tandem paragliding from Werfen, or over Salzburg.
Mittenwald is another beautiful town in a gorgeous setting.
Good ideas here.
I've taken a two hour tour of the Weienstephan brewery at Freising, excellent.
And Mittenwald is a favorite place. Cable car to mountain top. Bus to a lake, and eat outdoors. Beautiful train rides.
In Munich, behing the Fraunkirche, is an Australian/Irish pub/sportsbar. Last year we watched a Bears/Tampa NFL game there.
