In the RS itinerary, it states that we will tour the Acropolis, and then have free time at the Agora and Plaka. Will we have time before going to the marketplaces to see Mars Hill? I am trying to plan my time before and after our tour.
That is exactly what I did while on the tour in 2015.
Thank you, Lynn! Now I can plan to go to Mount Lycabetta before the tour.
Did that before the tour too. 🙂
Did you by any chance try to go to Philippi and Thessaloniki? Also, what did you do on Hydra and in Kardamyli?
We arrived in Athens 2 days prior to the tour. We joined another couple and went to Mars Hill. It was a great way to get out in the fresh air to help with jet lag. The next day we visited sites not covered on the tour. We went to a couple museums & the changing of the guard. The next morning we took a private walking tour that highlighted Jewish Greece. When we returned to Athens for our last day a number of us went shopping for souvenirs. Found a wonderful Jewelry store near our hotel. Enjoy this wonderful tour!
We did not go to Philippi or Thessalonika. We went to Santorini for three days before going to Athens two days before tour start. In Kardamyli, walked around town, along beach and upper/old town to see ruins. Had dinner at a seaside restaurant, but don't remember the name.
Hydra was an unexpected adventure. We arrived in a downpour that resulted in historic flooding. The hotel we were in didn't flood but torrents of water rushing past for hours. All piped (running) water to the island was lost. No running water in the hotel. The rain stopped midmorning of the day after we arrived, but the flooding continued for hours. We watched as residents tried to cope with the damage (and felt bad we couldn't help.) Later in day we walked up the hill for a view of the port and then back down for a walk along a path near the sea. Nothing was normal at anytime while we were there. You can search internet for 'flooding in Hydra 2015" and see videos of what went on for hours. It is hard to describe.
