Looking for suggestions for a "post-trip" following end of Best of Adriatic Tour in Dubrovnik.

Hi, my friend and I are interested in tacking on three additional days once the Best of Adriatic Tour ends in Dubrovnik (6/8/26). We are interested in visiting some islands (or island), and anything else that might stand out in that area. Perhaps Montenegro? Any advice and experience you have had there, would be welcome. Thank you! Ellen

Three additional days, so four nights? Is this what you mean?

  • 8 June you are free from tour after breakfast. You only have one tour day in Dubrovnik, so I would spend this day in Dubrovnik as well.
  • 9 June
  • 10 June
  • 11 June
  • 12 June you fly out of Dubrovnik?

You are going to get great ideas for local islands from others. Mostar is on your tour which is almost a shame because there is more to see and do other than Mostar, but going back to BiH doesn’t make sense, otherwise that would have been my first choice. So after islands and Mostar the choice is Montenegro. Montenegro happens to be one of my favorite places and I will be there the same week you have the free days.

  • 9 June you hire a driver/guide to drive you drive along the bay of Kotor and stop in Perast for a tour and lunch, then spend the night in Kotor.
  • 10 June you do a boat tour of the Bay. You do a half-day boat tour of the bay (Islands, Blue Cave). After you have a driver / guide take you up the scenic P1 road above Kotor. Stop in a prosciutto house on the way to Budva. Night in Budva
  • 11 Tour Budva old town before the 3.5-hour drive back to Dubrovnik for the night. Maybe stop in Herceg Novi for lunch on the way.
  • 12 fly home. This would be a lot better if you were flying out of Podgorica then you woud have time for Stari Bar.

You have so many options so the questions to me would be: do you want to stay one place and do day trips, one place and chill, or go to multiple places? And do you want to use buses, drivers, ferry, or drive yourself—or none of the above (meaning you could stay in Dubrovnik but I think that might be overkill)?
In summer, it would be very appealing to me to go somewhere like Mljet (one of the few islands I did not get to) and ride bikes and swim, especially after a tour. For a bit more action, head back to Korcula even if you’re going there on the tour.

I spent a few days in the Kotor area, but I think the mountains are the standout in Montenegro, where I want to focus if I’m lucky to ever return!
If I were driving, and not heading to Montenegro, I’d focus on Peljesac area in Croatia and Hercegovina area.
Also depends on exactly how many days you have. Good luck, you’re spoiled for choice!

Valadelphia is correct, the mountains of Montenegro are pretty special. You could do that. A quick 3-day trip might look like
9 June you hire a driver/guide. A hotel room and a driver in Montenegro isn’t much different than a hotel room alone in Vienna. But yes, this is a bit pricy, but I think worth it.

  • Drive first to the Hercegovačka Gračanica Temple in Trebinje, Bosnia & Herzegovina. https://youtu.be/qq0xJFfThNc?si=jKUsBJBuOJay1yO2 Yes, you will cross a few borders on this trip, and none are Schengen. But there isn’t a lot of traffic and they move fast.
  • Next stop is one of my favorite lunch places, the outside deck of the Hotel Sokoline in Danilovgrad, Montenegro. https://youtu.be/miNV1FVK7qI?si=7aGExP2DeKDkGpOW You should make it by noon. This is some beautiful unspoiled country to drive through. The hotel itself is on the edge of a cliff that looks out over the valley and mountains. The views are stunning. If you make good time driving, you might want to do the monastery first then the hotel deck for lunch.
  • After lunch up the road to the Ostrog Monastery for a tour. https://youtu.be/ixrJu6qv46M?si=TodrDkj92NMf-Cch
  • Then continue driving to the Motel Tara MB https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGuRybkymEI at the end of the Đurđevića Tara Bridge that crosses the Tara River Canyon; the deepest canyon in Europe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aGMZB8hB5Y . The day is about 4.5 hours of driving and another hour if you throw in the border crossings. So, a long day but its summer and the views along the way are stunning, every minute of it.
  • Night at the Motel Tara MB

10 You can sign up with some local tour companies for the day. Again, mostly unspoiled natural beauty.
You can tour the canyon, the deepest in Europe. Stunning canyon.

11 Unfortunately you must return to Dubrovnik for your flight. Once again, a flight out of Podgorica or even maybe Sarajevo would be better. About 3 hours of

  • Drive from the canyon to Herceg Novi on Kotor bay. Do the tour, have lunch. Beautiful place on the side of a mountain with beautiful views. https://youtu.be/nNtT4Mh2ZTc?si=YiPdT0_mKEJIofVi
  • Drive on to Dubrovnik. You should be there by mid-afternoon
  • Night in Dubrovnik or a cheaper hotel south of town near the airport.

12 fly home. This would be a lot better if you were flying out of Podgorica then you woud have time for Stari Bar.
