June 30th Eastern Europe Tour -anyone here?

Hi Everyone,

Just here to say Hello and introduce myself before this tour. I am excited - I have been trying to do this one for several years.
Feel free to say, "Hi!" if you are going too.

While not on your tour, I am with a group on the tour leaving just ahead of you on 6/23. I can provide an update if you are interested as we take our tour.

Hi Gretchen and Mark. I am going on the Eastern Europe tour beginning on June 16th. I will have a laptop with me and will try to make some notes each day. I have a single supplement room this time with no roommate so I can stay up a little later and spend time on my laptop. I also love going out ant night and taking pictures so this will allow me to do that without bothering a roommate. Talk with you both soon I hope. Maybe this thread will get a bunch of us talking about this summers tour.

Terry, thanks for jumping in. This will be our third RS tour we did the VIT tour in Italy in 2017, and a BOS (Best of Scandinavia) last summer. I am part of a group of 11 so this going to be an interesting summer. What pre and post trip plans do you have? We arrive in Prague 3 days early. Have a Eating Europe tour planned and are looking at a concert one night. Post trip some of us are heading to Munich for 3 nights to visit with one of our exchange students.

That sounds fun. This will be my 6th trip to Europe since 2006. That summer I went with my youngest daughter who had just graduated from high school on a tour of Rome, Florence, Paris and London with an inferior tour company. NEVER again. The Rick Steves tours are so superior than other companies that if I am going to do a tour it will never again be with another company. In 2007 I went with the same daughter all over Europe for 30 days to Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, France and Italy on our own. We rented a car and used Rick Steves books quite a bit to save lots of money on hotels etc. In 2012 I took a R.S. Best of Europe in 21 days tour with Dimitri and Kevin as our guides. It was awesome and I still stay in contact with several of the people that I became friends with on the tour plus I see Dimitri every January at the Tour event in Edmonds. I have done other trips with family to France, Italy and Switzerland. So this summer I decided to go to Eastern Europe on my 2nd R.S. tour. Unfortunately none of my daughters or my wife can come so I am on my own and decided on a single supplement instead of rooming with someone I don't know. I am arriving in Prague a day early to see some things not covered on the tour and things I didn't see when I was there for 5 days in 2007. Prague is a busy tourist city but awesome.

After the tour is over I am going to the Swiss Alps to hike and bike for 7 days. I will be around Lauterbrunnen, Murren and Mannlichen. I have been there twice before but both times was for just a few days and it was cloudy a lot of the time. I figure with 7 days in July I should get some clear days to really see the beauty that is there. Then I am going to Salzburg for 5 days. I have been there also but it is so beautiful and there is much to do there. To end my trip I am going back to Budapest for 5 days on my own of course. Everyone I have talked to absolutely loves Budapest so I figured the 2 and one half days there on the tour isn't enough.

So being with a group of 11 sounds like a lot of fun. I almost chose the VIT but it will probably be the next one I do in 2021. I already have my train trips scheduled and hotels and daily planning done for my after tour adventures so I am ready to go... lol... I would like to talk to you sometime about your VIT tour. I live only 30 miles from the Rick Steves travel center (very convenient for trip planning and events). If you ever come up to Seattle we could get together. Hope to hear more soon and I hope some other future Eastern Europe Tour folks jump on this thread
