How much time should we allow for Dubrovnik?

We will be taking the Best of Adriatic tour next spring. It looks like the tour allows about a day and half in Dubrovnik.

We have an additional five nights before we need to fly back to the US. Is that too much time to spend in Dubrovnik? We do love to be on the water, so ferry rides would be fantastic. We've also thought of going to Venice and spending a few days there. What would you do with five nights of free time?

Which month are you going? If you want to be able to swim for example, late May would be the earliest for me.
It would almost 99% depend on flight options for me. There are plenty of good options in Croatia, but if you wanted to fly to Venice after another day or so in DBV, then fly to Venice for the rest and fly home from there, that sounds like a fine idea.
Near Dubrovnik, you could dip into Montenegro or Bosnia (both I would do with a car, but not vital), or go back to Korcula (via Peljesac, where you can do wine tasting, stop at Ston). Or you could head north to fly out of Split and stop over on Hvar or another island. You also could spend time on the islands off Dubrovnik--that's definitely a "get away from it all" kind of vibe. You could head to Zagreb, which the tour skips, and do a bit of exploring in the north--Varazdin always looked pretty to me but I have not made it yet.

Or, you could play around with Skyscanner and see other cities you could fly to and then get a good flight home from.

Debra- We took the Best of Adriatic Tour in 2018. We felt that the two nights in Dubrovnik was just right. We had spent a week in Venice the week before arriving in Ljubljana, so that would be a great option post tour. Five nights would be ideal. Another idea would be to stay in Zagreb. If we had more time we would have stayed there a few nights. Enjoy your planning. It’s a wonderful tour!

We are taking this tour in a few weeks. We are staying 3 additional nights in Dubrovnik, with a day trip to Montenegro. We thought spending one day at the hotel pool or on the beach after the tour ends would be needed. This gives us one day to explore Dubrovnik.

We are flying to Sarajevo to spend 4 nights, see the sites, and then fly home. Four nights might be a bit long, but flight cancellations and rescheduling gave us this opportunity!
