This is starting to creep me out a little. I just discovered that I spelled my name wrong on my flight ticket American Airlines after booking a journey. I typed "Johnathan" instead of "Jonathan." I'm concerned that this could lead to problems at the airport. Has anyone else dealt with this before? Do you think I can get it changed by American Airlines without paying a fortune? I would be very grateful for any guidance!

Looks like it is doable without a fee. Just your time waiting on hold until it is your turn
I've done it before. Just contact the airlines (as previous poster said: allow some time for being on hold)
Yup, I’ve done it too with united. Just be patient while listening to the hold music.
Something similar just happened to my husband. When I went to check us in for our flight the day before, the system wouldn't let us check in because American Airlines had the wrong year of his birth. When we spoke to an agent for American Airlines he would not change anything over the phone. We had to make sure we were at the airport no less than 2 hours in advance to correct this which was corrected with the agent at the luggage check in after ID was shown.
American has a call back feature that relieves you of long hold times. And they have always called me back.
