You should be able to look up reviews on Booking.com; Tripadvisor, Google, etc. Booking.com reviews are only allowed from people who have booked and stayed at the hotel so no fake reviews. I use Tripadvisor for room photos submitted by travelers (not the hotel itself) to get a good idea of what the room looks like, how small it is, etc.

in Rome? We stayed there for our BOE 14 trip last year and it was great. Nice quaint rooms, great breakfast, and the location is really nice. A Short walk from the metro, across the street from the Vatican.
