Heart of Portugal Tour - Transport Card for Public Transit?

Hi:

We are taking this tour next month. Question for tour alums: were you given any type of public transport card to use during your free time in the 2 full days in Lisbon?

We will arrive 3 days prior to the tour & I'm looking at the Lisboa Card to see if that makes sense for us. It comes with free public transport, so trying find out if RS tour will give us a transport card of some kind to use during the tour days.

If not, I may purchase the Lisboa Card & use it to see the farther sites pre-tour.

On the Central Europe Tour, we received public transport passes for use during our free time in Budapest & Krakow.

Thanks!

I canlt say what you get from RS Tours, but as well as the Lisboa Card there are 24hour tickets within the city which you buy from Carris sales points and (I think) Metro stations. You pay 50 cents for the actual card and then load each day ticket onto it. Each 24 hours of Carris (trams, funicular elevators and yellow buses) plus Metro is €7.25, you can also add either CP local trains or Transtejo cross river trains (not both) ,Carris+Metro+CP is €11.40, Carris+Metro+Transtejo is €10.35. These do not get you any discounts at museums etc. but the difference between the prices means you need to check how much the discounts would really be worth (Lisboa Card is €31 for 24hours or the equivalent of €20.67 per 24hrs for a 72 hr card). And the Carris sales points are closed weekends and holidays!

I took this tour in March. We were given a card that was loaded with enough to cover about six rides (I think). This card could be re-loaded if necessary. I doubt anyone in our group used more rides than that over the two days. We used one ride each as a group to get up to the castle.

I had arrived a day early and had bought the same type of card to travel around on that day. You can put as little or as much as you want on these card, and can re-load them. There were machines in the subway stations that were easy to use. Our hotel was very close to a station.

The guide asked us to return the cards to her after we left Lisbon so she could re-load them for the next group. There’s a small charge when you buy a new card, so this saved some money. She told those who were returning to Lisbon at the end of the tour that they could keep the card if they wanted.

I took this tour in 2022 and had the same experience as Renee. The guide provided us with a card that covered the trips we took as a group as well as some extra trips.

I arrived early and had bought my own transport card to cover my trips in Lisbon as well as the train to and from Sintra.

p.s. The type I bought was the Navegante card and I loaded prepaid money for ”zapping”.

Thanks me.crewe! We may just get the card & load with some funds if the Lisboa Card doesn't seem to be a good value for us. Have to sit down with paper & pencil to see if it makes sense for us.

Thanks Renee & Laura! I figured that some type of transport card would be included for the free time. In Budapest & Krakow, we ended up just walking everywhere, so returned the cards to the guide.
