GAS tour 10/1/19

Well we did it! My best friend and I have put our deposits down and are very excited about going. It’s our 1st RS tour but have been to other parts of Europe on our own before. Has anyone else here signed up? I didn’t want to piggyback on the previous GAS post but have read through that thread faithfully and love all the tips.

Wheee!! I am so happy you've signed up for this one. I think you will enjoy it!

I hope you will be able to plan for at least a night ahead in Trier and 2 if you can swing it with time off work. There is SO much to see there, especially if you have an interest in Roman ruins.

Have you decided where you'll fly in to?

You'll probably want to have a warmish jacket and light gloves as it may be cool in Switzerland. Just mentioning that in case you need to pick up something this winter. If you need to pick up a jacket, I'd probably go with a lightweight puffy jacket which will squish down pretty small!

Good for you! I’m sure it’s a great tour. I’ve signed up for the last part of the itinerary: Munich Salzburg Vienna next December during the Christmas markets season. Enjoy your first RS tour, you will be pleased. I have been on 6 tours and can’t wait till next December for the 7th! Many people on this forum are repeat customers.

Judy, I did a non RS bus tour almost 10 years ago and I said never again because it was exhausting! However, I’ve had a few more trips under my belt since and I think I’m ready for one now.

Pam, I have a thin puffy Columbia jacket that weighs nothing so I think I’ll bring that. We’re going to sort out where we want to spend our pre tour time after the holidays. Luckily, the tour starts on a Tuesday so we can leave home on Saturday and have a couple of days to acclimate. It ends on a Tuesday as well so we can have the rest of that week to go somewhere else so I’ll be taking 3 weeks off work. I like the idea of spending more time in Trier and the surrounding area but am so tempted to do what you did and go to Paris. Post tour we have definitely decided on more time in Vienna and then Budapest.

Paris worked great for me but I spent about a week there first. If you leave Sat you’ll arrive Sunday so I’d just consider going directly to Trier for Sunday and Monday nights pre-tour.

Your post tour plans sound good .... or you could fly Vienna to Paris, lol!!

Your puffy jacket sounds “puff-ect” for this tour. Will it go under a rain layer?

Pam, I have this Columbia jacket with omniheat lining and it’s waterproof! I’ve worn it in rain and in 15 degree weather in SLC and have been very cozy. I love it! It’s definitely puff-ect!

And you’re right, realistically we should just head to Trier. The hotel/senior residence in Trier really sounds interesting so we’ll probably just book there. At the end though, Budapest really beckons. A return trip to Paris will have to be for a different time. Tomorrow, I’ll be able to order my tour kit so woohoo!

I did this tour a few years ago. Wish I had stayed an extra couple of days at the end in Vienna. Just saying...... wink wink. Oh and go for the gusto in Baden Baden. I was the only one in our tour group who did the fully nude baths. It was a remarkable experience.

Yes, we booked to stay an extra 2 nights in Vienna. I’m pretty sure I will not be going for the fully nude baths. I’m just a bashful American!
