GAS Tour

We just received our Tour Documents for our Sept 21 GAS Tour. Has anyone had Iris Andre for a Tour Guide. I am sure she is fabulous. Also we are staying in Obertraun instead of Hallstatt. Would appreciate any feedback.

A co-worker went on this tour in July and has nothing but raves about what a great trip it was. I know you will have a wonderful time.

Hi Betty,

I just went on this tour this past June/ July. We did not have Iris as our tour guide. Are you staying at the Dormio Resort Obertraun? That is where our group stayed. We took a boat as a group over to Hallstatt and then the bus back. We stayed in a chalet which had one bedroom downstairs with a communal kitchen and living room and three bedrooms upstairs. So you are with other tour members in each chalet. The bathroom in our two rooms were very tiny. Not sure about the other two bath rooms. If you use a hairdryer, be aware that there are none in the bathrooms. You need to go to the front desk and give a deposit for one.

The tour was great and you are going to love Murren and The Alps. That was our favorite stop. We had perfect weather while we were there. We also went paragliding which for us was the highlight of our trip.

We did the GAS Tour in July and Iris was our tour guide. Iris was great and her lectures as we traveled were fantastic. It was like a semester of GAS history in two weeks. We actually stayed in Hallstatt near the Catholic Church. We loved Switzerland the most but would go back to any of the locations we visited. You are in for a treat. Bon Voyage.

Hi Betty,

We are headed out the tour before you and have Matthias as our guide. We are also staying at the Dormio Obertraun, so am glad to hear some feedback on it.

It looks nice and sounds like it is far enough from the crush of the crowds in Halstatt, It will be interesting to see how they pair us all up for the chalets, won't it?

I took this tour last year in September and had Iris as a guide. She was amazing! Very organized and full of great information. She runs a tight ship, so plan on being packed up and ready to go a few minutes before your official scheduled departure time each day, but I appreciated that she kept us moving and made the most of our time.

One thing I noticed was that on the days when the group would split off to go our own ways in the afternoon she would take a moment to check in with each couple/family to make sure we all had a plan and knew where we were going. Also, her orientation walks were amazing for someone like me who is severely directionally challenged and worries about getting lost. She was great about turning us around every block or so and pointing back behind us at something we could use as a landmark to find our way back to the hotel. It was so helpful!

I loved this tour and I'm sure you will have a great time.
