Thanks - one of the tours on sale is a tour that I booked when it was full price. I sent an email asking that I be given a credit equal to the discount. I'll post an update once the company responds to my request.

In the past, they have put tours on sale to make sure that they have enough participants on the tour to make it viable. The idea is that they want to make sure that every tour goes as scheduled. I'm a bargain hunter so I understand the sudden disappointed feeling that seeing something you have purchased go on sale may bring. In this case, the sale is actually protecting your investment in the tour and the airfare you have paid, etc.

edited to remove portion Carrie did not like. Never trying to offend.

I guess there really are a lot of people who still aren't comfortable traveling to Europe. The problem is, everyone's experience is different- varying from death, long Covid, flu-like, mild symptoms, no symptoms-and there's no way to know in advance which category you are.

My tour is on sale too! I suppose i'd be upset if it was like half off or something, lol but I can live with missing a $200 discount, Oh, well. We've been looking forward to this trip since we booked back in November. I'm selfishly hoping....does this mean we'll have a smaller tour group? alternately- hey everyone join the munich/vienna/salzburg on July 17-24, you'll be guaranteed at least three cool peeps (me and my parents) :)

Carol Now Retired - I didn’t say I EXPECTED a refund. I said I REQUESTED a credit. I figure it doesn’t hurt to ask.

Hi 54% British,

You're absolutely right; it never hurts to ask - good for you!

I received a lovely reply from the office with an explanation of why they would not able to grant me a credit towards my trip fee. They mentioned that booking early had the advantage of choosing the week I wanted - not true in this case as the week I picked was the only one available at the time - but in general, that advice is very true! They didn't make me feel bad at all for asking - very respectful.

54% British, I’m glad to hear you were happy with the response from the RS office.

I also hope that you are not deterred from posting in the future. Most of the forum members are very kind and helpful.

Have a great trip!!!

In pre-Covid times, if I was traveling solo and had date flexibility I’d wait to book anything until late Spring, when sale discounts often got posted. This worked out pretty well several times, but that was only due to my having so much flexibility. I appreciated that the sales savings were combinable with the prior-tours-taken discount and that tours bought on sale were included in future prior-tours-taken discounts. These trips can be expensive, but long term repeat customers have lots of good reasons for/rewards for their loyalty.

The only problem with waiting for the sales is that you may have lost an opportunity to buy lower priced airfare.
