From Florence - 1/2 Day

Hi, We will be in Florence for 5 days. We are planning some day tours to Ciena, San Giagamo, Pisa, further south into Tuscan wine country. Any recommendations for something starting around 2:00pm that would be nearby, 4-6 hours?? Thanks!

Greg, I see from a previous post that you're using public transport exclusively for this trip.
Siena is really a full day versus a few hours, IMHO, and is the more interesting of the 3 locations you've listed. Any reason you can't leave earlier in the day? 2:00 PM is a very late start for day tripping.

Pisa is a possibility - more easily done with limited time as there's not as much to see there - but I'd opt for Siena if you could give it the time it deserves. Firenze SM Novella to Pisa S. Rossore (the closest station to Campo dei Miracoli) takes about 70-80 minutes or so by rail. Florence to Siena can be by bus or train, although the direct 131-R bus is the usual recommendation as it drops off right in the city versus the train station at the bottom of the hill. Takes roughly 1 hour, 15 minutes, I believe. A related thread:

....further south into Tuscan wine country.

Another of your previous posts stated that you had set aside an entire day for a south-of-Florence wine tour and had gotten some recommended resources for that. Did you decide against it?
