Food in portugal

Hello travelers, I am considering the Heart of Portugal tour. I am allergic to cumin and some other spice that usually appears in the same types of food. Possibly paprika if very spicy or in large quantity.

My question is in general or in the RS tour restaurants will I find food that is not spicy?

In comparison, my cruise to and a few days in Budapest was an adventure in allergic reactions I do not want to duplicate. I have even found that a McDonald’s hamburger in some foreign countries has spices you would not expect. I am going solo so I have to be careful. TIA

I have been on a number of Rick’s tours on which tour members had food allergies or diet restrictions. Tour guides will go out of their way to ensure that your food requirements are met.

Portugal should be quite easy because you can always get meals like grilled fish with potatoes. I would avoid anything that’s cooked in any type of sauce or things like seafood rice because this is a tomatoey dish that I would guess has spices in.

Paprika is used often on a lot of pok dishes, choriço and some sauces, avoid those.
Basic grilled fish or meat, boiled potatoes and vegetables don't have paprika .

Cumin is usually used in some sausages, some rice dishes and meat dishes ( stew type dishes).

You can also write a card to show at the restaurant that you have those food allergies.

" Eu tenho alergia a Cominho e Colorau, por favor cozinhe a minha comida sem estes ingredientes. Obrigada"
This translates roughly to:
I have an allergy to Cumin and Paprika, please cook my food without these ingredients. Thank you.

I am also very sensitive to cumin and am allergic to chili powder. I was in Portugal a few months ago and I had no issues. I found the food very mild. But, I stayed away from things like sausage, which is something that already has spices mixed in so they can't be removed. As one other poster suggested bring a card with you that you can hand to waiters.
