First RS tour booked!

I just made the deposit for my first RS tour! Yay! I'm doing the Best of Paris in September! I'm so excited. I'm taking a big trip with 4 friends in March and it's becoming a bit overwhelming. Now I have a great solo trip to look forward too a few months after that.

Congratulations, I am sure you will have a marvelous time. Now, the excitement and anticipation builds.

I haven't done the Paris Tour, either. Although, the spouse and I have spent entire week there, we would still consider taking the tour. We did take the Rome and London City Tours and they were both fabulous. Cities might be easy to do on your own, however, we felt we learned more about what we were seeing.

We've only had 4-5 days in Paris and we loved it. So many great things to do and see. Loved loved that city!

I look forward to doing the London city tour at some point.

Congrats on taking the plunge....warning.....it's addicting :)

Congrats. I have traveled solo, with friends and with tours from several companies, I don't think you will go wrong with a RS tour. Enjoy!

Hi Rosemary, I did my first RS tour last year and it was the Best of Paris in late September. It was fantastic! You are going to have a lot of fun!

Best of Paris is a great tour. One of the things I appreciated was that our guide made a point of teaching us how to get around and to use the Metro, so we could make the best use of our free time on the tour, and in any subsequent visits. The museum pass was great, as well. You're in for a great time. And once you've drunk the RS Kool-Ade, you'll be hooked! Like the rest of us.

There's no better feeling than knowing your going to Europe and the trip is paid for, or at least most of it! People ask me why I drive a 2005 Honda instead of getting a newer car and I tell them that I'd rather spend the money on Travel, it is just something that makes me happy. Your going to have a great time!!!

Congrats Rosmary,

You will love your trip. I usually only travel alone too. A tour is good because you can be on your own and with the group. I will be back in Paris in April and I am excited too. Have fun.

You will adore it - congratulations. Took my first one back in October to Italy; planned and anticipated for a little over a year. Making the deposit was a big and scary step; but oh the sweet, wonderful memories are worth all the trouble. Have a wonderful time! I hope to do another one in 2017 if all goes well.

At the risk of being just one more RS groupie (really I am!), I will also tell you that you are going to have SO much fun this week. I really enjoyed my Best of Paris tour as a solo traveler. I really, really felt comfortable being on my own in Paris after my week with Rolinka!

Do spend some time with the guide book ahead of time and have some possibilities for what you want to see in your free time. That will make decisions easier. I loved having the Museum pass and the Metro Pass! Sometimes you will have another day coming to you on your Museum and Metro Passes so if you can arrange to stay one more day in Paris after the tour ends, do so! There will still be plenty you want to see and do.

Thanks everyone! I kept going back and forth on whether or not I wanted to take a tour. I finally chose to do it because this is my first solo international trip and I think it will be nice to have the group around sometimes and have a good resource (tour guide) in case I have any problems. I'm also planning on spending a couple of days in the city after the tour so I won't have to rush through all the stuff I want to do in my free time.
I'm so glad to hear that people are so happy with Rick's tours too. I think this is going to be a great trip!!

Hi Rosemary:

I took the best of Paris trip this last Christmas. You are going to love this tour. I would recommend that you get the single supplement unless you have a travel partner that you want to share the room with. The hotel (Hotel de Londres Eiffel) is a wonderful, small hotel with the best pillows I have ever slept on, but the rooms are tiny!!!!! They are beautifully appointed and very comfortable, but small. The area is wonderful. Le Terasse is a wonderful Bistro close to the hotel and walking down the streets and smelling the roasting chickens, the stinky cheese and the bread coming from the stores is a pinch me moment.

Just to clarify, the Paris tour does not ~always~ use the Londres Eiffel hotel. I stayed in a different one. If you are going to be there the night or 2 before do look in to booking at the same hotel for those nights. For your nights after the tour, you might want to stay in the same place or you might want to move, depending on where the tour hotel is.

And while on the 21 day BOE tour we stayed in a different one as well. For our post tour nights we switched hotels in Paris. I wished we hadn't have done that! It was a considerable "downgrade" in accommodations....but unfortunately not in price!

We went on the RS Paris city tour in 2012, and had a great time. We went a few days early and stayed at the tour hotel (Londres Eiffel). After the tour, we moved to the Hotel du Champ de Mars to save money and have a different experience. The Champ du Mars was within walking distance of the Londres Eiffel.

Thanks for the hotel suggestion Bob! I just booked it for my pre-tour night. I was going to stay at the Londres for convenience but they wanted more than I was comfortable paying, even with the tour discount. The price at the Hotel du Champ de Mars was almost half the price and so close that it is still quite convenient. I've booked a hostel for my post-tour nights. I've stayed in many hostels so I know they don't bother me and there are some that look quite nice in Paris. The one I chose is in the Latin Quarter so I hope it will be in a good location for me.
I got my tour package in the mail a couple of days ago so that made this whole thing even more real for me! Now I just have to find an affordable flight, which I'm sure you all know is not too easy these days.
