Favorite Food Market in Paris

We like to grab a few goodies when we stumble upon a good local market, and sometimes turn it into lunch. We will be in Paris in a couple of weeks and want to take advantage of its many neighborhood markets. What is your favorite food market in Paris?

One of my absolute all-time favorites in the world is Marché des Enfants Rouges. It's in the 3rd and runs between Rue Charlot and Rue de Bretagne. My first visit to Paris, we stayed in an apartment next door to it on Rue Charlot. That's how we found it. At the time, I didn't recall reading anything about it in any of the guidebooks. Maybe that has changed? Rue de Bretagne is a great market street as well. If you do the Rue Cler trip too, do it first as this will surely put it to shame. Same with Rue Mouffetard. It's visually beautiful. I didn't make it to Rue Cler until a few visits later and it was a bit of a letdown.

Excellent! We will be visiting the Picasso museum and it looks like Marché des Enfants Rouges is very close. I already had my eye on Rue Mouffetard so it is good to read that is a good one too. I will do some research on the others as well. We have 6 days in town so hopefully we will be happening through a few.

Thanks!

We have often stayed at or near Place de la Nation and the Saturday morning market there is my favourite. Just huge. Across from the market there is a branch of the Printemps department store, and a large Monoprix not far away also, so it is a good shopping destination if that takes your fancy.

Around the corner from our hotel was Maubert Market which we enjoyed picking up cheese, bread & wine for a picnic. Another favorite was Rue Cler Market, that was where we got picnic supplies and ate on a bench in front of the Eiffel Tower. On our last day we explored Mouffetard Market but that wasn't our favorite. Buying goodies to eat in a park was a highlight of our trip. Enjoy!
