Family of four with 8 and 10 yr olds (kids 3rd european trip)

Is 7 day rome guided steves' tour appropriate for children this age? If not, another age appropriate tour operator?

Did you take a look at the Rick Steves Family tours? They would be a wonderful choice for your family unless you specifically looking for a shorter tour.

Took my 11 yr old dd on the RS Family tour.. there was a younger child,, think she was only 7( normally they say 8 but they make exceptions ) and she had a great time and no problems.. as all the children did.. there were 14 kids on the tour , the bulk of them between the ages of 10-16 .. I highly recommend the Family tour..

However it is a 14 day tour.. not just a week.

I would think the RS Family tour would be good for kids but I don't believe they are allowed on regular tours. Another age-appropriate tour operator is the delightful Rome Tours With Kids. They specialize in tours of Rome specifically for families with children of any age and they will customize the tour to suit the needs of your family. The tour guides are very experienced in presenting Rome to kids of all ages. Email them at info@rometourswithkids.com Call them at +39 331 466 7808 You can also visit their site for full details and to book https://rometourswithkids.com and find them on Facebook too. Every tour is geared towards kids and their parents. Great tours too! They have tours for families to Florence and Pompeii as well and these are just as fun.

I agree with Teri Lyn. Planning the trip yourself and making use of a local guide for certain sights is another excellent option. Other than Rome with Kids there is also Pinocchio Tours.
