Fall Travel Festival

Just home from the Rick Steves Fall Travel Festival. A fun day of dreaming and learning. I always learn something from these presentations and enjoy seeing the different places that they go on the tours. They were streaming sessions online in real time and I think they will also archive as well.

If you find yourself looking for information or even just a fun diversion, check out the sessions from the Fall Travel Festival.

I really enjoyed the webcast. I tuned in to watch Italy and France and they covered both countries very well. Loved it!

Just finished listening to Rick Steve's Travel Festival Webcast. The 'Travel as a Political Act with Rick Steve's' segment was outstanding! I highly recommend it to anyone who missed the webcast. Look for a replay at ricksteves.com

Carol,
I was able to watch most of the Italy and France segments, very interesting and informative. Rick Steves himself will be here in Atlanta next week at the local public TV studio. I and two friends, have purchased tickets so I hope to shake hands with him, and possibly have a picture taken with him. I am excited!

Best,
Judy B

We always watch Rick's Travel Festivals. We've found a great way to watch is by using Apple "Air Play" and watching on our television through Apple TV. It's much more relaxing than trying to watch on a computer screen especially when viewing multiple segments.

For anyone who watched, was the Travel as a Political Act lecture updated at all from the version on the website and that's been included on many of his DVD collections?

Dennis, RS facebook post says 'in a few weeks' so it's hard to say, you'll just have to keep watching for it.

Andrea, I only saw a little bit of it but it seemed the same as what I have heard before. When it's loaded here on the website I'll be able to listen to the whole thing, but I have a feeling it hasn't changed much. Don't know if he mentioned anything specific about the current situation in Europe as it relates to 'travel as a political act'.

EDIT I just noticed that in the 'Travel Talks' section on the website, the video of the 'travel as a political act' is from 2008, so it would seem that it hasn't changed enough to warrant posting a newer version.

My husband and I were lucky enough to hear him in person. A few years ago he was in Dallas during PBS funding raising. He gave his Travel as a Political Act at our, then, local library. Afterwards, he was nice enough to sign autograph and chat with the members of the audience.

I saw Rick in person last year when he visited Cleveland. There were about 1,000 people there but it seemed very intimate. He took time to answer everyone's questions and signed autographs. Very enjoyable evening!

We were fortunate to travel with Rick on our 2014 Best of Europe in 21 Days tour. Every year Rick is a surprise traveler on one of his tours as part of his vacation. Traveling with Rick for 3 weeks was an amazing way to see Europe. He travelled as a tour member but added his expertise to that of our great guide Reid Coen. He was a great traveling companion and gracious with people on the street in spite the fact that he was noticed all over the continent. Rick is as warm and genuine in person as he seems on TV. It was a real opportunity for which we will be forever grateful. So we'd never forget the experience, we documented our trip with an online scrapbook that can be seen on the 2014 Scrapbook Contest page. (Entry by Bob and Pam Gudas).

Hi all,

It is good to see that we had a lot of people watching the webcast of our Fall Travel Festival. It is a great way to catch the talks that Rick and his staff give on travel related topics and European countries for those who can't make the trip to Edmonds in person. I wanted to let everyone know that we will be showing several of those webcasts on our site in early December. We will be posting Rick's talks on The Joy of Travel, Travel Skills, Travel as a Political Act and his Italy talk and, as well, we will have Steve Smith's wonderful talk on France. Though some of the material will be the same all the talks have been updated with new information and visuals. We think you will really enjoy these new versions. Again, look for them in our Watch, Read Listen section under Travel Talks. cheers.
