My wife and I are planning to do a two-day stopover in Iceland following our Ireland tour in April. We'll each have a carryon and a small backpack for the bus We'd like to stash our heavier, Iceland-specific clothing in one of the backpacks in the hold of the bus without the need to worry about it for the entirety of the trip. I've seen some references to the ability to do that in other questions, but I wanted to check if anyone had done that or knew of it being done. I assume we can fit the heavier stuff in our regular bags, but it would be nice to be able to pack it and forget it.
It seems to me that several people have done that on various tours. Just to be sure, however, an email to the RS office should give you the best answer.
Having completed 7 RS tour with #8 being Ireland next fall the ability to leave items under the bus in what were first told was deep storage has always been available.
Good luck in Ireland let me know how it goes.
Details regarding a “deep storage” option can be obtained from the tour guide at the beginning of the tour. It has been available on all of my RS tours whenever space and configuration permitted.
This has been an option on all five of my RS tours, space available of course. Usually the "deep storage" is much fuller near the end after people do their on-tour shopping, so you'll likely have plenty of space right off. However I'd confirm for sure with the tour office. And FWIW, do you really need Iceland-specific clothes? Ireland might be just as cold and damp, you may need the same solid set of layers and waterproof outerwear for both locations.
Thanks for the responses. I'll definitely ask in advance, but it seems as if it will be an option. We'll be set with layers and rainwear for both places but might explore the option of some heavier options if the weather for Iceland is looking foreboding before we leave.
This is not an option on some tours. Different buses or drivers are used. Check with RS tours.
